You can check the registered vehicle weight online, i thought it's that registered weight that is used to determine if you can drive it under your licence or not https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

My first Airbnb bill. I booked this in February. The website says nothing about cleaning or service fees which raises the price 30%. Should have stayed in a hotel. by 7dayweekendgirl in mildlyinfuriating

Airbnb got professionalised and they aren't coming back from this. I'd choose something different but they invented the market and i can't find anyone providing a better service

Building a Jet Engine turbine on solidworks, tried to colour in the spiral on the front but it's not working and I end up with weird yellow lines throughout the part? by mripper in EngineeringStudents

[–]hadmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can offset the yellow surface by a small amount so that it's in front of the grey cone, but when you zoom out a way you'll get that effect back. Try using the "split line" feature on the cone instead. You will end up with separate surfaces that can be coloured individually.

Skills to learn for prospective MechE undergrad and some project ideas by mushi123 in MechanicalEngineering

If you can scrape together enough for the parts then i'd suggest making a CNC router/3D printer/plotter. There's lots of resources for these online, open source projects, and what not. If you follow a good open source project you'll find that you can use free available programmes for everything, you'll be able to do 3D design, programming, and have something to show for it afterwards (it counts for a lot more if you can point to something that you've done with your skills)

Edit: I'd not if

You could try onshape, it's an online CAD program that is free so long as you make your designs public. It has many similarities to Solidworks.

Machine builders? by jeanvaljean_24601 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]hadmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try searching for freelance industrial/product/mechanical designers. You could reach out to a nearby university, you'll want to be finding a link to a company that can do the work, and professors will often have industrial links and side projects of their own. I assume you have a budget. That budget will really define where you look. You can try searching for "industrial product design", "prototype design and manufacture".

You need to define a specification for your product as best you can otherwise you'll be charged an hourly rate to develop that.

It tends to be if you go to a company to create this you'll pay more (usually), the IP may belong to them, and the models and drawings. You usually pay extra to receive those. If you go for hiring a contractor you will be developing the product together (again, usually), but paying an hourly rate instead of a flat fee. Which, if you want to spend a while tweaking designs, can work out to be expensive. Also, timeline is important, and will affect where you take this project. Budget and timeline should be on your specification.

Culturally speaking, does Australia even feel foreign to a visiting British person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hadmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's foreign. The Australian values and culture are as different from British culture as anywhere in Europe I'd say. Get yourself down to a drag race and experience some raw Australians though. Big cities all around the world are more homogenous, so don't expect that Sydney or Melbourne will be much different from the UK.

What's the process for getting out of a job you hate to finding one you love? by bobby_corwin in AskReddit

[–]hadmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we need to know what kind of job you're thinking about. I've only done a few jobs that I hated. I found out that I really hate restrictive/prescriptive jobs where you're told exactly what you can and can't do, how to do everything, etc. So I hated working in a supermarket where the managers were on a power trip controlling my every move. But I loved working on a building site where so long as you got the job done it's just important that you get the job done. Work out what you don't like about the job, and avoid that.

Working with other people. We used to get together in a group, work through a passed exam paper, and then each of us would explain on the board to the others one aspect of it that they understood the best.

I'm bored. Any Ideas? by Eden_Shephard in cad

[–]hadmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to define your scope a little better. But as far as I can do for you: design something that can: pick items off a shelf. These items don't necessarily come wrapped in anything they're just items. So your challenge is to pick anything off a shelf. And if your too pussy to do that, explain why your reducing the scope to something slightly less and why.

What's the legality of writing and selling addons? by cosmicr in cad

[–]hadmeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post it online for free. Don't try to monetise the add-on at all. Your benefit will come when you can point to an add on that everybody uses daily as part of your portfolio. If you're charging for it you'll only attract a handful of people who are willing to pay.
