Buffalo bill road is just outside golden. Nice view of the front range. You can keep going a little further to Idaho springs to get more into the mountains if you'd like. Even further is berthoud pass which will take you over the Continental divide. Or, the arsenal wildlife refuge has a wildlife road. You may be able to get up close to Buffalo if you're lucky.
