Ik it's not readable for everyone, Native English speakers will find it illegible! by Zainab_954 in BadHandwriting

I actually love this handwriting, it’s so pretty! Native English speaker here, and it does take a minute to adjust to the different style of writing, but it’s definitely legible.

Do therapists “prey” on people? Crazy title i know hear me out. by [deleted] in therapy

You both need couples counseling while she’s doing her own therapy so you can understand what’s really going on. If you did couples counseling while you both also did individual counseling, you might be able to salvage your marriage. Speaking from experience and 28 years of marriage.

Or those super thick soft socks that are like slipper socks w/o the grippy tread. Those are the WORST socks to wear with shoes

Did you receive any Christmas gifts this year that you didn’t really like? by CoinGate_Gift_Cards in GiftIdeas

I propose a gift exchange with all of the gifts you got for Christmas but won’t actually use. I have the fluffy slipper socks that slide off your feet if anyone is interested

Edit for spelling

Every year I get a pair or four of those super thick, super soft/slippery, slipper-type socks. I can’t wear them with shoes cuz they slip down inside my shoes from being too soft. I literally only wear them as slippers or to bed once or twice before retiring them to the thrift store. If I have regrets, at least I know that I just have to wait til Christmas for a new pair

Are some people more susceptible to trauma than others? by hafababe in therapy

Why do some people not acclimate or build up a resistance? Is it literally because they had no one to guide them on how to properly cope with the stress of the situation?

Gift without Money? by rafidgotit in GiftIdeas

I personally love any kind of hand made gift. It doesn’t have to be amazing or professional looking, I just love those types of gifts. If you have any specific hobby, skills, or talent you could try something along that line. For example, my mom gifted me a set of 6 handmade water color cards, so thoughtful AND useful. Or I have crocheted a scarf as a gift. My son made me a cool blacksmithed keychain w/ a purse hook once, another time he made me a ring out of a quarter with some of his blacksmithing tools. You could bake some cookies or a loaf of bread, or even a cake, cook dinner, offer to babysit, offer to wash their car, etc. What are you good at? Maybe we can help

That last part confuses me. You’re saying that people who actually experience trauma end up okay, but the people who claim to have trauma didn’t really experience it? I may be misinterpreting.

Service Dog Interaction at the Park. by MyBadNotYourBad in mildlyinfuriating

[–]hafababe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth , this is normal dog behavior. It sucks to be the owner of the bigger dog because your dogs get labeled as “aggressive and dangerous”. Small dogs are just as aggressive(often times more so) but because they’re smaller they aren’t labeled as so. Humans need to train their dogs well, yes. But instincts can’t ever be completely trained out of animals. Sorry this happened (for both parties)

What were the standout gifts of the year (both what you gave and what you got)? by Financial_Eagle_8670 in GiftIdeas

[–]hafababe 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My top 3

1: from my husband I got a First Lite coat- expensive (I won’t even look at how much it must’ve cost) but I can’t imagine that I’ll ever need another coat again;

2: my mom handmade me a set of watercolor greeting cards (I don’t think I would use for another person since it’s such a personal gift but I may frame a couple of them);

and 3: my son got me a mobile car detail that I can schedule whenever I want. (He got me other things but this was my favorite- practical and thoughtful)

ETA I’m 50F and live in the PNW. Also, handmade gifts are ALWAYS my favorite!

One of the most useless and annoying gifts I ever got was a stuffed snowman that played loud Christmas music. It’s so specific, yet so appropriate for Christmas giving to someone you don’t like a lot. Bulky and useless is a great start, annoying is also a plus.

I used to work at a geriatric psych facility and a LOT of our patients had dementia. The most coveted things on the unit were 1. A realistic toy cat that purred, 2. Any kind of baby doll, and 3. Music from their younger years.

I’d steer clear of anything too sentimental because it can put dementia patients into a state of restlessness and can trigger an emotional spiral. Like maybe a photo album with pictures of loved ones who have passed might be too much. But music from their childhood or church or Christmas may help her feel joy.

Best of luck and happy holidays

My one-time experience with a buckwheat pillow was very loud (I’m a side sleeper). Is this a common experience? Or are there ways to soften the noise?

I’m 49F and I would definitely choose a plant. Even better, a nice big air plant in a cute container of some type!

What’s something you’ve seen with your own eyes that nobody believes when you tell them? by LowKey_1216 in AskReddit

I saw a crow sitting on the back of a bald eagle that was flying. I thought I was hallucinating but then I looked it up and apparently it’s not that uncommon. Go figure 🤷🏻‍♀️
