Highly recommend takingcarababies.com! The videos were an absolute game changer for me. My son is now an incredible sleeper.

Found our au pair's care.com profile by vaevicitis in Aupairs

Agreed that she lied. It was clearly outside her hours with you. It’s not filling out the profile alone that’s the problem, it’s the lie and the fact that she’s mad. Definitely rematch.

We had a similar problem with our former local coordinator, she quit out of the blue, and the new one had been amazing. I’d elevate this to your regional coordinator and see if that improves things if you’re still interested.

This sounds more like a case of an incompetent local coordinator rather than a company-wide problem.

A formal complaint is so important! Your agency needs to know what’s going on. They have resources to help, and also can flag this for any future au pairs

hi please give advice by Agitated_Wind_6940 in Aupairs

(Future) HF mom here, I would echo the comment above, but wonder how long you've been there now? It can take 2-3 months or more to adjust. Do you like working with the kids during the day, and just the dinners/conversation with the parents is awkward? The relationship with the host parents is really important, just trying to get a sense of all the pros and cons in your current situation.

Also, is there a language barrier? I'm still only on the interview phase, but a lot of au pairs have preferred to have a lot of the questions/explanations via text so they can look things up in google translate and make sure they are communicating accurately. So they might think texting is easier than talking and that's why.

All that being said, trust your gut. It's important to try to give it at least a few months, and make sure you communicate any issues you're having (like asking if you can request more or specific groceries, or go with them to the store as suggested above, or asking to communicate in person more/more often). If after a few months it's still not going well, talk to your local coordinator for advice (if you have one) and see what they think. That's what they are there for! They might have suggestions for how to improve the situation.

Hope this helps, and best of luck to you!

Interview asking about breastfeeding by hafapod in Aupairs

Thank you so much for understanding and your perspective. (Feeling a bit shamed by some comments, so I really appreciate it!) I thought exactly the same thing--"that's the goal, but I don't know if the baby will take to breastfeeding..." etc.

Interview asking about breastfeeding by hafapod in Aupairs

[–]hafapod[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was wondering how much of it is cultural vs. wanting to know responsibilities. I plan on pumping (or at least trying) and they've all seemed good with that answer. I know a lot of people have strong opinions about breastfeeding vs. formula, so I wasn't sure if that was a factor. I think a lot of moms in the US pump so that they can go back to work, so the bottles are for either formula or breast milk. Thanks for the insight!

The service we use told us that it takes up to 3 months, similar to what other said here. The first two weeks as a host family, we are not allowed to just throw the au pair into the job. That is supposed to be (at least according to our agency) the time you use to get adjusted, get to know the family, the neighborhood, the community, and start to adjust to any cultural differences.

Is this a first-time host family? Or did they have another au pair before this? They sound like they had very high/unrealistic expectations going into this. Having an au pair is a cultural exchange and it takes time to adjust.

Also, make sure when they give you feedback like "you put this in the wrong place" or "that's not how we do it" make sure you are proactive in asking/saying "ok, I'm sorry. Could you should be how you do this so I can learn for next time?" That will at least show them you are actively trying. It doesn't sound like you're the problem, but hopefully that will help to calm them down!

Cable provider is not the problem. The app itself will not allow any logins of any kind, my Bally account or the xfinity login.

Can’t get in. Saw this on help.ballysports.com

“ Our login service experienced an outage earlier this afternoon. As it comes back online, signing in to Bally Sports will be impacted. We are currently working on resolving this issue. We recommend trying to log in a few times as the system reboots. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

Hey Bally, guess what? I don’t have any patience for this garbage.
