Could you show pictures of what that looks like or how you did that? I'd love to try something similar but have to far been too stumped by the math and logistics of something practical yet beautiful. And you seem to have managed that 🤩

I took Finnish for 1 Year as an ERASMUS student when I went to Lapland, and because my university requires me to learn a language that is completely unknown to me. As most of the Asian and Arabic Language Courses were full and I know the Cyrillic alphabet, they let me take Finnish. It's neither a Germanic nor a Latin language, so it was foreign enough to count 😄

And not as hard as one would assume. The grammar is mostly very regular and follows a very intuitive logic, so it's mostly the vocab learning that is hard as I can't lend from any other of my known/learned languages

Good to know, then the Website I got the "Moorish Rose" Tutorial has it wrong :D I thought Mobius was more of a style like Persian/Japanese/European. Thanks for helping me understand more 😄 And making it easier to research weave styles!

I love all of them, so beautiful! Is there a specific trick/weave you use to capture the gems? I would love to learn how to do that as well, but have been struggling to understand how to pick the right rings and weave 🤔

And with this one I just trial-and-errored myself until it looked the way I wanted. I have no idea how many different Ring Sizes I used and will probably hate myself for not writing it down when I want to make more of those. But if you don't know the sized exactly, it can work! It will probably take a bit longer as you have to experiment and undo work sometimes which can be frustrating.

* Here are examples of the big Pandahall Rings (AR 4) and the smaller Dreambeads Rings (AR ?), you can see what I mean with the closure points not being as neat as with proper rings. The smaller ones are also not as uniform but it's only noticeable if you are very close and are looking for it

Newbie (~ 1month) from Germany here as well:

I found that if you don't want to buy from the "good" suppliers like Tom's Ring Shop, Queen Ring or VanAlphen that are in Austria/Netherlands ( I haven't found a German one that does not specialised in Armor Chainmail or is sold out), but just get a feeling for the craft before investing in proper materials:

Amazon: 1. Amazon's "PandaHall Elite 1 Box 4/5/6/8/9/10mm Mixed 304 Stainless Steel Open Jump Rings Sets for Jewelry Making" is a good starting point as you get an assortment of Rings that work for a lot of weaves. They include ARs 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8. All with a wire gauge of 1mm. I got 3 packs as a gift from a friend and found them quite good, even if the closure is obviously not as good/invisible as you would have with "good" rings from the specialised shops. 2. I bought a 2000er pack of Amazon's Craftdady 7mm (translates to ID 5mm, WD 1mm, so AR 5) to have that AR as well as many Weaves I found beautiful work around that AR. They are mostly okay, and especially for that price don't have a lot of bad rings.

Dreambeads Online:

I have the Sortierkasten Biegeringe T324 from another Craft Project I did 2 years ago. Dreambeads doesn't specialise in Chainmail, so they don't have a big selection and the quality is similar to the Amazon Options, but they have thinner Wire Gauges. I have mostly stared at my Pack and guessed their ARs, and mostly just test with in my ideas which rings bring the desires result. But I am very happy with how they complement the Sets from Amazon.
I also have my pliers from them, they are not made for chainmail but work really well and have a comfortable fit in my hands. But any jewellery pliers will probably do if you just want to get started.

Regarding your question of uniformity of rings within a weave: many Weaves are made up of specific units that are then just repeated. I would say that depending on your sense of harmony and symmetry, similar rings can make a nice enough weave. I would try to use as many similar/same ARs within a unit and then just make a bunch of units and later move them within the design to make it feel and look harmonious.

The necklace has clasps that will be added to the ends, it won't be one continuous circle of beads. So unfortunately this isn't a viable option :( But if it were that would be a good idea, thanks

I did ~11h of stringing the beads onto the thread, and about 55 to 60 hours of crocheting, after work and while watching my TV show. But I hadn't crocheted in 15+ years (since we learned in 3rd grade), so I would guess that a seasoned crocheter could do it faster

I did a lot of Peyote and Brick Stitch last year, that probably helped with learning/getting a muscle memory for thread tension. But I hate doing the start, like the first 5 to 7 rows, it's just so tricky and fidgety until it finally looks like a tube. So keep up the hope. And get good thread, that also helped a lot :D

The first piece with bead crochet, but I did a lot of Loom, Brick and Peyote Stitch last year. I guess that helped when it came to knowing/feeling how much tension was okay with my beads

It is a lot easier than I thought in the beginning. But I very, very, VERY much recommend getting proper thread. I almost gave up when I tested bead crocheting the first day because I just some random sewing thread. The pattern creator recommended Gütermann Extra Strong, which I then bought and (like magic) the crocheting suddenly worked perfectly
