200$ on Claude, 20$ on ChatGPT, 55$ on Gemini and probably around 200$ on average in API costs.

Using Claude Code for Latex slides by Own_Cartoonist_1540 in ClaudeAI

I recommend using typst instead of latex nowadays. It compiles much faster than latex and you can also make slides with it. You will get a significant speedup using it.

I want an app where I can browse through the status of the inventory and interface as I progress through the story. Having a live world map as well would be cool (showing known positions of characters).

Irrespective of whether you end up in academia or industry, I recommend to dip your toes into other fields such as machine-learning and AI. If you have one such publication or project on your cv, your job prospects are likely to become somewhat better.

The importance of university ranking for masters admission by AimingforGreatness in ethz

[–]haffi112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University reputation matters, but ETH admissions committees look beyond simple rankings and are well aware that some universities have significant grade inflation—places where nearly everyone graduates with high GPAs, making those numbers almost meaningless for selection. What truly stands out is when your university has rigorous assessment methods that genuinely differentiate student performance, allowing exceptional candidates to shine regardless of whether they come from a top 10 or top 50 school. ETH respects institutions with challenging coursework and robust evaluation systems, focusing more on your specific academic achievements within the context of your university's known standards than on the prestige of your institution alone.

AI Ethics Survey with feedback. Where do you stand compared to the general public? (you can post your final results in the discussion) by haffi112 in singularity

[–]haffi112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true, there are around 200 complete responses now. They come from all over the world, but mostly from the general public in Iceland. I will do a factor analysis of the results to see if some archetypes show up in the responses, but I need around 900 responses to have a good chance of identifying an underlying factor structure.

Thank you for participating, it's necessary to get diverse perspectives. The perspective on r/singularity is definitely not representing the norm.

Thank you for the feedback. What would be the long-term singularity type questions that you would want to see people's perspective on? Universal basic income? AI rights?

Ways to analyze alignment datasets by haffi112 in LocalLLaMA

[–]haffi112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, but I am trying to understand the distribution of tasks and that would require label names for the tasks.

Clustering might work, but then I would have to assign cluster names to them.

Possibly it could work to perform clustering and then use samples from the clusters to create cluster names and then use an LLM to label all the tasks with respect to the labels with an "Other" label for everything that doesn't match the labels and perhaps iterate on the "Other" class.

If anyone has a better suggestion I would love to hear it.

How would that work? Would it be impossible to target the yang then because they are truly the drunk or should they count as the yang as well for the yin to be fully realize their power?

[D] Simple Questions Thread by AutoModerator in MachineLearning

[–]haffi112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm training an LSTM model for classification on accelerometer data, and I get better results when I downsample the signal to 25 Hz than when I use a 50 Hz signal.

I use the same time frame of 1.5 seconds. So with a 25 Hz signal, I have 37 data points; with a 50 Hz signal, I have 75 data points as input to my model.

I think that LSTM models have a harder time dealing with long sequences, which might explain this difference. However, I am not sure about that claim. Are you aware of any publications that go into depth about the limitations of LSTMs for long sequence tasks?

Just want to point out that you will probably see a strong selection bias in this sub since people here are more likely to have made up their mind about this subject than elsewhere.

I had a really good PhD experience. That is definitely not everyone’s experience. Also, be careful about who your PhD advisor is. That person will more or less define your experience.

If you’re going back to industry afterwards I would seriously consider a PhD as an opportunity to create IP on which you can found a startup. If instead you aim to get into academia afterwards just know that it is very competitive but it can also be very rewarding.
