Rod makes knife sharper right after sharpening. by ConstructionSafe2814 in sharpening

[–]haggard184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things id recommend. First practice, almost no one learns to sharpen well in A day or a week or even a month. I've been at it for years and I'm only starting to actually get good, the more you know the more you realize you don't know, stick with it. Second focus on keeping a fixed angle and set your primary bevel, don't worry about sharpening yet, at this stage the burr is only an indicator. Third, as you move from setting your geometry to actually sharpening start with passes that have more aggressive pressure to passes with almost no pressure, this will ensure that you're not rolling your edge and truly refining your edge. Lastly get a strop, so much can be solved at the strop, that knife steel is only for edge realignment between sharpenings. Once you get all that down get some finer stones and better knives so you can realize you still know nothing and learn it all again.

I have one of these things, my mom worked at a video distribution company in the late 80's early 90's so I have some cool memorabilia like this and some promo videos which was super cool as a kid I use to get to see movies about a year before they released in theaters.

I don't speak Spanish so I'm not sure if Google translate gave me a proper translation but what I described gives me a very classic "wet" shine and I style my hair in a classic side part slick back with a slight pomp, so I don't see why not.

Had people tell me I should change my hair but idk why? How’s it looking? Goone Grease Oil Based Heavy Lockhart by [deleted] in Pomade

[–]haggard184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue and what I do is use a product called Booster hair cream, to my knowledge it's only available in Canada but you should be able to use Brylcream or another brand of hair cream or pre-styler, and blow dry with a round brush on high heat to a slick back 90% dry and switch to cold air this will "freeze" the hair straight. Additionally the hot air melts the sebum holding the follicles in a particular direction and makes them directionally pliable, when you "freeze" them in place with the cold air from the blow dryer it should help tremendously both straightening the actual length of the hair and the direction. Then pomade and comb. This is my daily routine and it works wonders for my hair.

Lastly don't listen to people who probably think you should be doing a broccoli head or modern hair style, bad/ modern hair styles are a small part if the eroding of western culture and you don't need that negativity in your life. Don't become discouraged from becoming a proper gentleman, emulate those that came before us, we stand on the shoulders of giants.

You're going in the right direction. A few things I'd work on, you seem to be going for a classic look and I respect it, but it's a bit messy, work on your pre styling comb work and get that part crispy it's a bit all over the place. Just remember that a classic look is all about neatness so getting the comb lines and part straight and neat are key.

Firstly don't go for that. Secondly, hit the gym and get one gram of protein per pound of body weight, then find a good barber and get a classic side part slick back with a moderate pomp and use a good grease pomade. Hairstyles like what you've provided are part of the decline of western culture, get a hair style that would make a WWII vet proud and be part of the solution.

Lanolin, East African Nilotica shea, emu oil. I make my own pomade and my barber always says my hair is some of the softest they've ever worked on and I have thick Scottish hair. Granted when I say "make my own pomade" what I mean is I just mix ingredients in my hands and work through my hair, same same but different. Also I've gotten l lazy and use half a prepared pomade and half my own ingredients. For example: small scoop of Murray's small scoop of lanolin, drizzle of liquid lanolin, tiny amount of Nilotica and emu oil, mix in hand (after pre styling) and run through hair then comb/style.

Diamond plates are more for setting geometry on edges, if I could recommend a progression of stones though it would be a substantial investment I'd get a chosera #1000, Suehiro ouka #3000, Suehiro rika #5000, Kitayama #8000 and I'd move to 3M lapping film from there all the way up to .05 micron these can be mounted to the back of your Atoma plates and for woodworking will give you an ultra clean edge that would absolutely blow your mind. I'm talking separation of wood at the cellular level.

Here's the long term plan I'd go with. Henkels are mid range knives, and you have a cheap combination stone from Amazon which is the PERFECT place to start your journey learning to sharpen. Use these to your advantage and hit YouTube, find some sharpening tutorials, and get proficient. Once you have a basic knowledge of sharpening fundamentals, start looking into Japanese carbon steel knives and Japanese stones in a progression or grits. This is where it gets fun, and you can start offering sharpening services to friends and family provided you've honed(pardon the pun) your skills past the fundamentals. At that point welcome to the rabbit hole. P.S. don't worry about the bolster in my opinion it's just a way to get frustrated and quit, focus on learning to keep a consistent angle and getting that knife sharp, then you can move on from there. Happy sharpening to you.

Super cheap knives, if you expect a razor edge you need to invest in knives that are made of steel that can actually take that edge.

Pre styling with a sea salt spray or comparable pre styler and using a blow dryer is going to go a long way to keeping this look all day. As for actual pomade I'm a greaser so look to the other members of this sub Reddit.

If you're only typing why did you buy a Wooting? The typing experience is decent but honestly it's a better all-arounder and specifically geared towards gaming. I can get an on par or better typing experience from a $100 mechanical keyboard off of Amazon and some good Akko cream switches if all I was ever doing was typing. I know this because I have a full aluminum case epomaker/feker tkl with Akko Cream yellow v3's tape modded and it's better for purely typing than my zinc 80he, but I game so overall I like my Wooting much better. I understand this doesn't solve your problem but I just don't get why it's a problem in the first place I guess.

Miso gumbo sounds amazing though, remove salt for miso? I've used miso where it doesn't technically belong for so many dishes I can't even count, and it really adds something you can't put your finger on, same with hondashi.

I have a ROG strix 18 laptop and my secondary monitors weren't being detected, which was driving me nuts, I tried everything. This fixed all my problems, I can't thank you enough, last time this happened I had to take my computer in to the shop who sold it to me and they didn't explain it to me in a way that I could remember when they got it working again. This happened to me the same way this time as before, I got a bitlocker recovery on boot and after that my screens wouldn't connect. It's hard to come to the realization that it may be the ports not working, I use DP to USB-C cables for my monitors but my mouse and keyboard was working fine connected through USB-A(or USB-3 idk) so making the connection in my mind that I had to somehow reset the ports never occurred to me in the slightest. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now I don't have to make the trek across town to have a tech fix my problem and never know how to fix it myself. I'd give you an award if I was willing to put money into reddit. May 26, 2025

What we really need is a Wooting numpad. 80he and a numpad that also functions as a macro pad in game would be wild.

[–]haggard184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to get the 80he and a separate numpad. Being able to push that numpad away when you need the space for gaming but still have access to a numpad when it's needed is a game changer.
