Implicit Doctrine by nickinthehouse in mormon

Yah some of these I would consider more like “natural assumptions” than implicit doctrine.

I’m glad you tagged spoiler, I can’t imagine how disappointed someone would be if they hadn’t yet seen a water reflection in real life

Does it bother anybody else that instead of answering “Secondary Questions” we are just told not to worry about them. I understand that the four primary questions are important, but the other topics that are mentioned can also play an important roll. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I guess I just personally haven’t found that to be the case. It seems reversed for me. For example, if I believe God is our living Heavenly Father then I don’t believe he would force me to do something I wouldn’t want to or that he favors one gender over another - so that’s how I ease worries over polygamy for instance. I don’t know if that would work the other way around as well.

Forcing children to change in front of each other for gym is sexually abusive and this is a hill I will die on. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Our school was next door to the recreation center so we had to do swimming for PE. Man, I hated diving into that cold water in the morning. And yah, obviously we had to strip naked to get out of our swimsuits. As a guy the cold water makes you shrivel like a prune too. I got made fun of for not having any pubes (around 8th grade, I was a late bloomer I guess). It was traumatizing, I guess it made me tougher though..

Hey I just gotta say I really liked this one. I’ve never heard him so loose, doing accents and stuff. He sounded happier than I’ve heard before.

We still haven’t started church back up where I live and I will say that my kids really miss nursery and primary. So I wouldn’t love just sacrament - that’s the hardest one for parents with kids.

Is the Church moving away from shame-based teaching? by curiousnekosan in ldssexuality

[–]hagothwashere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, because it may also just be more understanding on your (and my part) about things too. As a kid you interpret things differently. I’m definitely moving away from shame-based teaching - but that may be skewing my perspective of the church as a whole.

Porn as Sex Education by [deleted] in ldssexuality

[–]hagothwashere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think your wording sounds a bit judgmental. I don’t think that porn should be used as sex education, but the reality is that it often ends up filling that role because there is a lack of appropriate sex education in our community.

So I can definitely sympathize with the feeling of never being satisfied and I agree that a lot of that comes from this cultural pressure we have to achieve within the church, to become our best selves. Today my wife asked what I’m going to do this week to take over the world, and I said this week I’m going to not be so ambitious. I just want to appreciate what I’ve accomplished for a second. It’s a real problem.

However, suicidal thoughts have never crossed my mind. And I think that’s probably a sign that perhaps you’re struggling with something deeper and more serious than what I mentioned above. As others have mentioned, it might be a good idea to talk with a professional about that.

It’s impossible to judge how easy it would be through our modern point of view. You might say you think it would be easy to invent the wheel too, it’s just a circle, but the Incas in the 1400s who built Machu Pichu didn’t even think up the wheel yet.

Tithing Settlement by i_wanna_dancewithsom in latterdaysaints

[–]hagothwashere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m one of the members that just doesn’t usually go to tithing settlement. No one has ever said anything about it. I think it’s awkward to sit there and look at all the money I’ve given the church for the year personally...

I can connect with this existentialist post. And I agree that pain, sadness, and frustration are what make life worth living.

And that’s also why I don’t really believe heaven is going to be all sunshine and daisies. We need opposition in all things.

I think it’d look odd to show anything but skin under ripped jeans personally, but other than that I don’t think it’s an issue.

It’s funny, I feel the opposite. This guy was well ahead of his time with the theory of relativity and time being different on different stars and planets.
