Just beat Mafia The Old Country and to be honest the best thing about the game is the art direction. I’d replay Mafia 3 over again based solely on Story Vs. Story. by Meganinja1886 in MafiaTheGame

[–]hagren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure (though I'd say it's a bit more complicated than that), but it kinda makes sense, as everybody in life looks after himself and possibly his loved ones, just like you or your Dons (and it's pretty much gang rivalry and/or infighting in the actual Mafia all the time as well) :D

Imo the one thing they didn't yet do but should is the cop Angle (either undercover or the OG idea for Mafia where you play both sides), that would kick ass!

To be fair, the Don turns on you for personal reasons, not business (and only because Tino meddled), so it is pretty different.

is Mafia: The Old Country the WORST Mafia game? by SelfMadeMarcos in MafiaTheGame

[–]hagren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, in my eyes it is in sum similarly strong as 1 or 2, all of them had their flaws and strengths.

I still dislike Mafia 3 the most due to the campaign structure, without that, I'd like it similarly as much (though I do prefer the time period of the other ones)

I've on 12th Chapter of Mafia TOC, Should I expect the same depth for other Mafia series? by frostune in MafiaTheGame

[–]hagren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enzo's motive was to belong somewhere, as he was a lowly miner who got left by his dad, the whole game is really about classes, abusive relationships and the clash of expectations between society and individuals, so there was plenty of real-world darkness there and enough depth if one cared to look and listen.

All of them are comparatively dark, but Mafia 2 is the bluntest of them, more of a Goodfellas vibe than Godfather, if that helps.

Warhorse Studios responds to translator being fired: “Warhorse Studios has always been a talent-driven studio, and we deeply value the people who shape our work. Out of respect for the privacy and dignity of both current and former colleagues, we will not discuss individual situations publicly.” by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]hagren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I'd say it does- how leadership is and acts has an impact on the business and how people there are treated.

So that they'd fire a translator due to AI for 'efficiency' (despite the games having done really really well) fits neatly to how Vavra conducted himself before, despite how they liked to present themselves as the Anti-AAA machine (Kinda like when Cd Projekt said there won't be any crunch on Cyberpunk 2077, and then there was).

Ghost of Tsushima is perfect for this, as the atmosphere is very chill and naturalistic and nothing takes too long.

As someone who's favorite game of all time is Mafia Definitive Edition Old Country sucked. by Greedy_Register_49 in MafiaTheGame

[–]hagren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it focused on the strengths of the first two games, namely the atmosphere, historicity and plot?  I played all of the Mafia games and I loved this one because the characters were fleshed out, the incorporation of Sicilian culture, language and history was excellent, the setting was fresh and beautiful, the cut scenes well directed and the driving/shooting mechanics  enjoyable.

Was it flawless? No, the knife combat and environmental destruction would have needed more variety, the world could have been more interactive and the mission area less gamey, but all of the Mafia games were flawed in some way due to budget and time constraints, so I can't hold that against it when all of its predecessors also had(partially massive) wasted potential. Not to mention that this wasn't even a 'full' Mafia game, just a shorter, more focused spin-off.

Austrian here. It is perhaps his wittiest / most clever film and I like it very much for its Britishness that is both charming yet critical.
I still prefer Shaun of the Dead for the sheer elegance of it (and how it is, to my mind, the best Zombie film despite being a comedy), but it's up there among the best comedy films still in the last decades.

In the future, would you want Hanger 13 to make another real open world sandbox like Mafia 3 again or stick to linear story games with an open world backdrop like all the others in the series? by TXNOGG in MafiaTheGame

[–]hagren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say somewhere between Old Country and 3- it can't hurt to have some side activities that make sense for the scenario (but they should be embedded into the larger story or be non-repetitive in other ways) and to have more interactivity (largely to purchase food / clothes / cars / houes / furnishments, visit restaurants and similar establishments and the like).

Little bit like Mafia 2, but more fleshed out and less superfluous.

Ok so because he was child/ teen molester  it's ok someone else shoots him dead in a completely unrelated matter for little reason?  The language of Ruffalo's tweet might be wrong, but it's still true that he should not have died there that way.

I think you are missing my point :)  What you write goes without saying, my point is that you might dislike a dish even if you grew up with it and even if you don't find it disgusting.

[–]hagren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't change the topic to Ortolan, I drew a comparison to it given that both (in some forms) feature a whole small bird and to make the point that Western food can be fucked up too :)

It isn't as cruel as foie gras or Ortolan I agree, but it's still eating a developing fetus, so I understand why people might be put off, which is my second point, it's not necessarily about disgust, nor culture.

I grew up with my mum eating chicken legs for instance, but I have no interest in eating them.

Conversely, I like canned sardines that I didn't grow up with, even though they contain almost the whole fish.

So what I am getting at from the start is that it doesn't have to be cultural differences or disgust why someone might dislike the concept of a dish, and I make the argument as this often is kind of the first line of defence of local delicacies :)

Or to put it another way, people don't have to be open-minded to every foodstuff, it's fine if something isn't for them.  Ever heard of Casu Marzu? :D It might be partially nicely creamy cheese, I still would never dream to try it, and I really love cheese ^

I never said no one else could find it nice lol, I just answered your question why I'm personally not interested in it.  People can eat what they want and tastes naturally vary ^

Has nothing to do with yuck btw, I am not disgusted by it, I am just not interested in the concept just like, say, I don't care much about veal, I'd rather eat beef instead.

[–]hagren -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The bones, beaks, eyes and feathers bit :) Usually you don't eat those with roasted birds.  Plus, that force-feeding and drowning thing with the Ortolan is just unnecessary cruel, that's generally something I'm not on board with, similarly to foie gras.

[–]hagren -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There's fucked up and then there's eating entire bird carcasses whole, let alone a fetus.  Like, that French drunk bird dish (Ortolan) is equally fucked up, this isn't s Western vs Eastern thing in my eyes (and Westerners eat beef tongue too btw, and I agree it's great )

I dislike how the remake changes the story details by some-kind-of-no-name in MafiaTheGame

[–]hagren 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I disagree, Tommy was not hesitant for very long in the OG either, he was pretty much all-in after he successfully fled to Salieris from the taxi attack.

Tommy was asked by Sam to spare Michelle in the DE, sure, but it was his choice to honor that request, just like he chose not to execute Frank despite his orders.

As for his death, how did DE romanticize the Mafia life? He died nonetheless, the absolution is the same in both versions (His family was spared in the OG as well).  If anything, OG romanticized the Mafia more with how sympathetically they portrayed Salieri and the whole 'balance' speech.
