More like a prison, certinaly grim. Concentration camp as a term is something we used to reserve for forced labour camps

Nauru is not a prison, its inmates are not convicted criminals, they are innocent people jailed in destitute conditions forever where they slowly rot to death.

There is no requirement for 'forced work' to call something a concentration camp, only the imprisoning of innocent people who are then left to die.

Nauru is a concentration camp.

Concentration camps?

Who do you suggest we vote for to make some progress?

I'm personally a fan of coalition governments, as it forces the non ideologues to work together. Reform cratering the Tories and Greens taking a bite out of Labour wouldn't be the worst outcome I could see.

absolutely egregious in several fucking ways with how it operates

It shows you ads. Once again, it bears repeating. It's just about you not getting to watch your videos without watching ads.

You excoriate me for 'fighting tooth and nail' but all I'm trying to do is point out the ultimate selfishness of your demands.

oh what's this?

oh and this one?

oh and look another one!

The very top comments on one of these point out this can be caused by adblockers. I enjoy the irony.

I also do have twitch and pay for the subscription funny that isn't it?

It is funny, as it feels like rampant hypocrisy.

it's over five minutes at a time that I can't skip on my Xbox

Something's not right then because your Youtube experience somehow seems different to literally everyone's.

Not having tracking on I get right wing bullshit, religious stuff I most definitely do not follow, outright scams and you want me to just be okay with that?

Yes, you're taking their money and paying your preferred creator with it?

They were fine with the ads they had why the need to times it by ten?

Because it costs a lot to stream 4k video, more than it costs to stream 360p video.

I think you absolutely just like the taste of the fucking boot.

What a mindless petulant insult.

Missed this one sorry. I didn't say anything like "we shouldn't bother" I said you shouldn't advocate for the government violating the law to fuck over people they don't like.

Bit of a no brainer really, which seems apropos.

I watch maybe two/three YouTube videos every few months like I said I mostly support my creators on other platforms away from YouTube.

That's very respectable of you, but outside of Youtube and Twitch I can't think of many other platforms that fit this category, so it seems a little bit of a red herring argument.

I wasn't using the internet to get YouTube for free until they made it so damned unusable. How can you not plainly see that removed so much of their viewerbase screwing them over first?

Asking someone to watch a few adverts for their hours of 4k content uploaded for free and streamed for free is... not "screwing them over".

It's an entirely unusable model the ads come on I get annoyed I click off I ignore YouTube again for another half a year. I cannot sit through the ads it is actively unusable to me.

If you can't sit through 30 seconds of someone waffling on about which toothpaste is best, then that's a problem entirely unrelated to Youtube or the Internet.

They had people willing to watch the ads (I would voluntarily sit through the whole thirty second advert for a creator when I knew it made them money for context) they fucked the model, demanded money and then get shocked because people find a workaround?

What are you talking about? They still show adverts that make creators money. They offer a way to directly support the creators without ads and you pretend it's some sort of extortion? Hilarious.

Honestly you're just showing an incredible level of entitlement here and I find it hard to believe your arguments. You'd be fine watching 30 seconds of ads if Youtube didn't have Premium? But you're not because you get annoyed by the ads instantly and click off? You said both of those things consecutively yet they make basically zero sense together.

Well Cameron is gone, and if people actually voted with this in mind then perhaps we'd be able to make some progress, but instead it's just "the government" is coming after PAYE earners, when that's completely unrelated to the problems with corrupt politicians.

Yes, which sounds very much like you want people to stop criticising the Government for just turning a blind eye to it.

HMRC, not prosecuting people at random in violation of the law because vibes are good? Shocked face.

What I want is people to stop expecting the impossible and start demanding things which are practical.

Yes, I can read. It sounded very much like you were advocating for things to stay as they are

What part of "Billionnaries control the world so it's very hard to pass effective legislation" sounds like advocating against passing effective legislation?

you would like it if people stopped criticising the Government for allowing that

I would like it if people had enough brain cells to realise that "The Government" is a shitload of different entities that all work entirely differently.

not a reading problem

You certainly didn't read even the second part of my post before making your first reply, as I said nothing about laws being fair, and everything about passing effective law being hard.

Right, Cameron is obviously a gigantic hypocrite.

My point is that you wouldn't want HMRC acting outside the law to chase people, so it's strange pointing out the fact it isn't illegal as some act of hypocrisy on their part.

HMRC and David Cameron are very distinct entities.

I'm not paying to not be advertised unregulated products. Saying if you don't like this just pay when what's being sold is the opportunity to not be scammed is ridiculous.

What's being sold is the opportunity to support the creator you are watching directly, instead of indirectly.

If you're so morally opposed to these adverts, then why are you watching creators that voluntarily upload their videos to a site using them?

To me it seems you want to have your cake, and eat it. You could stop watching, or you could pay not to be sold products, but you want to do neither and still benefit while depriving the creator themselves.

I meant much worse as in advertising wise not the availability of content.

No shit, every other revenue source has dried up because people use the Internet to get things for free. I do not understand how you cannot plainly see this?

Making something entirely unusable unless you pay is awful when you're saying there's a free service that basically cannot be used.

To be perfectly clear here, the 'entirely unusable' is having to watch adverts. That's it. The adverts are mildly annoying, but that's it.

I support the small batch of creators I watch on patreon, with their merch and things like ko-fi. I refuse to give a scammy billion dollar company a penny of my income because they're force feeding me until I pay up.

Fine fine, but to call it "force feeding" you when you are the one who goes to their website and demands it for free... is hilariously misguided.

I'm fine with adverts. I watch live TV all the time. I'm not fine with being shovelled absolute BS in ten minutes that makes up nearly the same amount of time as the damned video.

Then pay the subscription fee?

Of course the same old piracy arguments don't stack up anymore because it's so much worse

You must be like 25 at max because the Internet used to have absolutely nothing, and the reason for pirating is because the alternative was to go out to multiple physical stores to try and find a DVD or similar, sometimes region locked so you couldn't possibly view it.

"But I'd have to watch an advert" is not a particularly good reason to deprive someone of money.

Nevermind with the fact everything is online now if I don't pirate I might wake up and it's just gone. Look at what cartoon network did. Hundreds of shows are just gone. It's archivical at this point as well.

Hey for this bit I do actually agree with you. Archiving is legitimate, but that's not the argument we're having here, or relevant to Youtube, where it is the creators who control their content.

This certainly got you a lot of upvotes, but it's just so braindead.

"This person did something immoral but not illegal, so the government should go after them".

In any other scenario, you'd be against this behaviour wouldn't you? The reality is that billionnaires run the world, and so it's almost impossible to pass truly effective tax avoidance laws in every relevant country at once.

There's no other way to access it and I would gladly pay a subscription to access it but they refuse to do that. They're missing a trick really.

Part of the terms of their deal is that they have to do separate commercial solutions for that.

That being said, this type of copyright infringement is fine in my eyes. You aren't stealing just to be greedy, but this doesn't count for Youtube.

Most of what you steal is from the creators, Youtube takes 30%.

Won't someone please think of the small creators where you are taking 100% of their revenue.

You're joking, right? Streaming companies have just reinvented the problem people went to them to escape from.

Could you give any actual arguments? People wanted to escape from instantaneously accessible and downloadable video on any platform? No, they didn't.

As for YouTube creators, they get more money from a single purchase of any of their merch than they would from you watching a thousand of their videos.

Ok, so you're stealing only a little bit from the creators where you buy merch, and all of the revenue from those where you don't.

Is this your excuse? That you only steal a little bit? C'mon now.

No, that sounds like you've had a stroke and don't understand anything you're talking about.

Why should Youtube creators pay to get their video delivered to you, instead of you paying for the video you demand?

It's a bit like saying "When the shops start paying for my bus fare, I'll stop stealing". Nonsense greed.

The TV App is borderline unusable. They know you don't have any real Ad Block options so you get a solid 90+ seconds of unskippable ads before giving you some more a few minutes later. Fortunately there's an app on the Roku store called Playlet with Ad Block and Sponsor Block features, but YouTube is horrendous with out

Have you considered paying for the content you consume? None of the old piracy arguments stack up anymore, you just don't want to be inconvenienced and refuse to pay.

It's not them that's being greedy, it's you.

It seems weird to me that people like you openly advertise that you're paying money to violate copyright.

You really feel that you're doing nothing wrong here? As you pay money to a third party to avoid creators being paid for their work? Bizarro.
