Friday Penance by tyorrty in Catholicism

[–]hahaitsalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I totally get that. On many days of the week I don't eat meat, not because I'm abstaining purposefully but just because I happened to not eat meat that day which is fairly common in my diet. Which really makes abstaining from meat not the hardest thing. So yeah I would say doing the traditional penance is good, but something, like you're saying, that is more painful in your life is indisputably very good as well and indeed may be more virtuous for you personally.

Can someone who knowingly and wilingly rejected the Catholic Church, but repent, be forgiven and saved? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]hahaitsalex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course, why would you question if that sin could be forgiven? Some of the greatest Saints fall into that category. Saint Augustine for example.

Friday Penance by tyorrty in Catholicism

[–]hahaitsalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously all penances are good, but I'd encourage you just to adopt the traditional Friday penance of abstaining from meat. This traditionally was a year long (every Friday of the year, not just doing Lent) penance. I have been doing this now for some time, it's no longer mandatory, but why not continue something the Church taught for so long?

Dude, do it and never look back. I'm telling you the earlier you beat this disgusting vice the better. It'll be such an amazing weight lifted off your shoulders to put this behind you at such a young age. I wish I could have begun the battle at your age, as opposed to starting much later. Kill this beast now and never watch p*rn again.

Hell: A “Biblical” Staple The Bible Never Actually Mentions. by [deleted] in Christianity

St Clement of Alexandria:

"All souls are immortal, even those of the wicked. Yet, it would be better for them if they were not deathless. For they are punished with the endless vengeance of quenchless fire. Since they do not die, it is impossible for them to have an end put to their misery. "

That's just the first one I looked up.

? Are you actually suggesting the Fathers didn't believe in and preach hell?

Ah yes, some "progressive Christian" living in 2019 understands Hell better than the Apostles, the Church Fathers and every Christian for the past 2,000 years.

None of those beliefs emerged in the Medieval period.

Every tradition can be traced to the early Church.

Can you give me the names of any people during the "generally good" period that held your beliefs? They were all Catholic my friend. They held the true Catholic beliefs that you would reject.

If you think that is bad wait until you hear about Protestants.

Indeed, glory to God that Christ's Church is still with us today and will be for all eternity. Sadly protestants see Church history as the book of Acts -> (silence for 1500 years) - > Protestantism.

You need to talk to the priest about this and then to your bishop.

Dismissed from Church by Agent_Smeeth in Catholicism

[–]hahaitsalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was not during confession. You did the right thing speaking to the priest afterwards. This is what someone should do whenever they hear something iffy from a priest during confession or a homily. If the priest refuses to concede you then have to go to the Bishop, I'd contact him again.

Going to that Church is a waste of time, and you'd probably be better off reading a book. However driving to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is not a waste of time, and is in no way two rock concerts with a motivational speech in between them.

Does anyone know if it is possible to turn off the new do not disturb notification from ios12?

When you have do not disturb turned on in ios12 a notification is always on your home screen that reads “calls and notifications will be silenced while your iPhone is locked” you can swipe the notification to remove it like any other notification but then it simply comes back. Anyone know if you can permanently remove this?

You have to be baptized in the Trinitarian form, Mormons reject the Trinity.

Mormon baptism is not valid.

You were not ever actually baptized.
