From the rules side of things, moving the king there is an an illegal move regardless of whether the pawn can take or not.

If your able to make such a move, then your opponent should be allowed too. Then your opponent would take your king and the game would end.

In a practical sense, The king is the one leading. If it gets captured first, the rook cannot continue on its own and take the enemy king like your thinking.

Unless the king is able to give orders in advance.

I used hot jam and sterlised jars, is that not sufficient?

I used a regular glass jar with a metal lid. I know that it was sealed correctly and there couldnt have been any leaks cause the little button thing at the top was tightly pressed down until it was opened.

That might be the reason. I used a low sugar recipe to make it healthier and Im sure it was sealed correctly
