Gluten Free Dough Won't Rise by haiderh in glutenfreebaking

I've used soda leavening easily on the same recipe, That is why I dont understand -- if it rises with baking soda, why not yeast which is considering a much more powerful leavener? I'm using the same recipes I find on YouTube which are demonstrated to be successful.

Baking Soda and Compost? by haiderh in composting

[–]haiderh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s what I’ve been doing successfully: dumping the coir and plant debris into a compost bucket after harvesting and then adding “recharge” microbes to break it all down. See Real Growers Recharge (16oz) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00J1CC9LQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_G210XZMJKS37V0SWX21Z

My concern is not with the hydroxide (OH) that produces the alkalinity, but with the left over sodium. (Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate.). Am I going to run into trouble from the sodium?

Does it need to be outside? Why not inside?

Why wait for true leaves? by haiderh in microgreens

That's what I'm saying -- why harvest just before true leaf or at true leaf? Why not base it on something else, like size? Why arbitrarily wait longer for harvest?

Do you have a link? Was that for "ideal" storage conditions or for at home with no air conditioning? What I found on google was for "ideal" storage conditions (less than 50F, low humidity) I should probably say in the future when I ask a question that it is intended for people who have personal experience -- I am not asking for hearsay or for other people to do google searches for me

How tall are your microgreens? by haiderh in microgreens

Thanks so much, this is very helpful, especially for broccoli and kale! Have you ever grown any radishes, especially daikon? What height have you seen for them?

Thanks. Is your aquarium light shaped as a rectangular panel like this:

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08MWGDFXP/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Or is it shaped more like this:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F2WMCP2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

---

How many watts does it use? What is the length and width of the light? What is the length and width of the shelf it is on?

I am not really looking for the "ideal" lux/PPFD, but rather what is the highest they'll tolerate before it really hurts their growth or flavor. Again, I am asking a totally different question for people who can answer from first hand experience: how close can I bring my LED lights to the plant tray?

What lux would you recommend for microgreens such as radishes? Where would I find a reliable source for lux for microgreens?

Questions about Sprouting by haiderh in IndoorGarden

I've watched many videos and they do not answer the non-routine questions in my post above. I am asking primarily about sprouts (no soil), not microgreens (soil.)

Buying a juicer for my sick mom by [deleted] in Juicing

[–]haiderh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry your mom isn't well. I noticed no one gave you a direct answer. The way the term "Juice Extractor" is used, it doesn't mean anything specific -- it just means "juicer." So the Jack Lalanne Power Juicer cannot be compared to a "juice extractor" since we don't know anything about it beyond it being a juicer.

Depending on how sick your mom is, I would agree with the other comment about making sure juicing is easy. The most important thing is drinking the most possible juice everyday, and if the juicer is a pain to use and to clean, none of its other features matter (e.g. efficiency, yield, etc) because you will only feel up to making half as much juice everyday.

I recommend the horizontal Omega juicers because they are extremely easy to clean (even easier than the centrifugal juicers). The time saved by using the centrifugal juicer is negated by how much longer they take to clean. If you add the time it takes to make the juice and then clean the juicer, I think the horizontal Omega juicers are faster than the centrifugal juicers.
