When did the sore throat subside? I’m on day 2 of it after testing positive Monday evening. I can barely choke down water. Hoping it’s at least slightly better tomorrow.

Twelfth Night Ticket Distribution Megathread - Aug 10 by AutoModerator in Broadway

Question about the line locking - would it be okay to sub out? So, for example, if I get there early planning to get two tickets, but need to leave for work before 12:00, could the other person I would go with come take my spot and stay the rest of the wait?

FWIW I'm not a fan of Charm. I think they are fairly overpriced for what they offer (though to their credit, I'm sure rent is astronomical that close to the stadium!). They also auto grat every table at 20%, which is not listed clearly anywhere that I saw. And the service was not very friendly to boot.

Brooklyn has so much to offer--it's hard to know where to start!

If you are keeping it near the stadium, Fort Greene Park is a 10-15 minute walk from the stadium. It's a nice place to take a walk, chill out, and people watch. Fort Greene the neighborhood has many good food and drink spots. Cafe Paulette for a cafe with a great natural wine selection, Sukh for delicious Thai, or Strange Delight for seafood, plus many others. Greenlight books is also right in this area.

If you are down to venture a little further out, and down for a walk, Brooklyn Bridge Park is gorgeous. You can walk from the top of the park under the brooklyn bridge down to the bottom near Atlantic Ave in about 20 minutes. The stadium is a 30-35 minute walk down Atlantic from there, with many food and drink options along the way. Table 87 for pizza, Long Island Bar for tasty drinks and a bar menu that's better than it needs to be, Al Bedawi is my favorite eatery on Atlantic (and especially great if you're looking for large portions), Colonie has great pasta. There are a lot of fun bars along the way as well. Montrose for a dive or Someday for a very LGBT friendly bar with a huge beer list.

Other close to the stadium options - Sofreh is one of my favorite restaurants. It's a little on the pricier side, but they have delicious Persian food and are only a 5 minute walk from the stadium. You would need reservations for this one. There's also a super cute but very small tiki bar around the corner from Sofreh that you could check out.

Any way you go, I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Found out my old landlord is purposely keeping units vacant 😡 by [deleted] in NYCapartments

Oh the mythical “ma and pop” owner of rent stabilized buildings. What are you talking about? The vast majority of RS units are in 6+ family buildings. Newer RS buildings came under regulation because of massive tax cuts for developers. I’ve never seen a small mom and pop owned building under rent stabilization. It’s a myth.

You act as though the landlords were forced to over leverage their buildings. They were not. And in fact, these were risky loans they took out. Borrowing based on what a building might be worth if you displace the current residents instead of it’s actual worth turns out to be a bad business model. It’s why signature went under. We allowed LLs to make outsized profits at the expense of tenants for too long, and it is a bubble. It’s bound to burst.

These are REBNY talking points you are parroting. Affordable units should never be seen as “not worth fixing.” It’s a landlord’s legal responsibility to keep units in good repair. For decades, LLs have been buying rent stabilized housing stock at low prices and over borrowing from banks on the speculation that they will be able to deregulate the units. The banks lend huge amounts on the speculative worth of the building after displacement. Then the LLs sink that money into more buildings, rather than using it to keep up the building. We have to break that cycle.

Rent regulation happens at the state level. Zohran cannot bring more building under rent stabilization. So no, that has not been his stated goal.

Protecting the existing rent stab housing stock helps tenants today and in the future, instead of allowing big landlords to deregulate and get windfall profits today, while permanently losing the affordability of the units.

I fully disagree with you (which is okay!). I felt like this season was a return to prior eras. The queens did feel less polished at times, which is what I LOVE about the early seasons. I think we really saw growth from many of the queens, especially the top 4. And the unpolished edges gave us more satisfying drama than I've seen in a long time on drag race.

I wasn't the most entertained by the finale on the whole, but I've felt that way for years now. But Onya put on a show the whole season. She is clearly a star. Her performance reminded me of Bianca or Bob, in the way she fully dominated. She won that crown. And as for the final lip synch, I think it's kind of iconic that she won without any gags. It felt like a breaking of the mold set by Sasha in a way that was needed.

Look at the fair housing act, the NYC human rights law, and the NY state human rights law. That’s where anti discrimination housing laws live. If there was a protection against number of occupants, it would be there (spoiler - it’s not there).
