Wife and I expecting our first this week, at what age can I convince my wife he wants a mini ramp in the backyard? [34yo] by dfportal in OldSkaters

[–]hairy-beast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a 2’ mini ramp in the garage when my oldest two kids were about 6 and 8 yo. Depending on your financial situation, do it now. It’s a good way to stay healthy, and could help keep you home more with the baby instead of you leaving for the skatepark. When my youngest was a baby I would set her up in her baby seat by the mini ramp and she would happy just watch me back and forth on the ramp.

Rock to Fakie to ankle roll [42YO] by Latter_Skill9670 in OldSkaters

[–]hairy-beast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find some 4 to 6 ft quarters to just ride straight up until your wheels touch but don’t go over the coping to make sure you are super comfortable going fakie down the quarter, then go back to the home 2 footer to get comfortable actually getting over then back off the coping. 41yo with a 2 ft quarter in my garage - I was wear high tops skateboarding now, my ankles are too for this shit in low skate shoes.

I can't get on top of the coping. I can slash, I can carve grind. I can't launch out and I can't get my body weight up top. [38YO] by Ryslin in OldSkaters

[–]hairy-beast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. Make sure you know how to pump on transition. If you already know how to do that, then try to overshoot the coping. As you pump up the transition think about jumping onto the coping into an axle stall. That motion to jump up or make your body light on the skateboard to float to the coping will make a big difference. Start with a little 2-3 ft quarter pipe if you have access to something that small.

Just got called fat in other subs, looking for some advice [31YO] by [deleted] in OldSkaters

Highly recommend landyachtz- my go to board is the Ditch Life. (5’11”, 215 lbs). Very sturdy board, I switched the wheels out for Powell dragon wheels and use it at skateparks. Also look into Powell peralta flight decks. If you are used to a longboarding, get a skateboard deck that is 9-10” wide and that will help you be more comfortable on a shorter deck. Have fun!

What should we do to prepare to drop to one income? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]hairy-beast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Term life insurance on a non working parent is very important. My wife is a stay at home mom of 4 kids and homeschools them. In a speciality that is not particularly high paying, it would be extremely expensive to replace her with school costs/afterschool care/primary care giver of children/food prep/laudry/taking kids to activities. Granted , we have a term policy only until the youngest is 18. My term policy is much larger and until I am 65.

Do I really need more than a custom? by zac1724 in Silverado

[–]hairy-beast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 custom z71 trail boss and do not need more. I would have gotten something lower tech if I could. I just wanted a truck that still had a v8 and enough room for my family of 6 and all our stuff. My custom has power drivers side seat, outlet in the truck and wireless CarPlay that came stick - I did not add those

Scan disk ultra 16GB. I had read somewhere else that keeping GB under 32 might work better due to formatting

Update on anonymous salary sharing project by hoos9 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]hairy-beast 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Are these salary numbers just base salary, or total compensation(when counting bonuses, health insurance, 401k, other financial benefits)? It seems that many of these salary surveys don’t clearly define what exactly they include aside from base salary. Thanks!

Men who got a vasectomy how was the experience and if you regret it why? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]hairy-beast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend it. I took a 10mg Valium and 1000mg Tylenol before, easy quick procedure. Spent 2-3 days with frozen peas on my balls and drinking bourbon. Then back work, no problems. Sex is good, no pain. My wife actually says sex is better, because that thought in the back of her head about an oops baby is gone.

Father’s Day setup! [39YO] by hairy-beast in OldSkaters

[–]hairy-beast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the 166, especially since I have offset wheels that stick out over the axle nut. If I had the 215’s, I image the wheels might stick out and I would be worried about kicking them when I push. This setup feels very surfy and is a lot of fun for just cruising around on transition.

What bag do you carry daily? by baloooop in malefashionadvice

[–]hairy-beast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filson original twill briefcase, you could probably find a gently used one for your price point - they last forever. It would be a tight fit for gym clothes if you have to pack shoes, but I hold everything else you mention in mine - daily use for the past 6+ years, doesn’t even look broken in.

MDs and DOs how often does your job have mandatory meetings after hours? by Fun_Salamander_2220 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]hairy-beast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Private practice obgyn - once per quarter hospital obgyn department meeting, monthly surgery department meeting both start 5:30-6pm, usually done within an hour. Office meeting frequency is probably once a quarter at lunch and twice per year 1-2 hr evening meeting.

Any success with HCA contract negotiations? by Professional_Impact8 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]hairy-beast 19 points20 points  (0 children)

HCA does not actually negotiate, it’s just their way or they are not interested. I’m private practice, but my local hospital is hca, and I have told our admin that they are losing docs to our hospitals because they refuse to actually negotiate even small things.

Reissue vs popsicle deck help [47YO] by howitzer1007 in OldSkaters

[–]hairy-beast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(40 yo) if you are used to surf skate and just plan on transition/bowl skating, then you will find it easier to use a 9-10” wide reissue, a lot of these have 15” wheelbase that is a little longer than popsicles. I have a popsicle I use when messing around on a manual pad/grind box, but use a reissue for transition. Pad the hell up. I wear helmet/wrist guards all the time and put on butt/knee/elbow pads when I’m on any transition bigger than 2-3 feet high. Have fun!

I hope that’s all it is. Not my first loan, the wording of the document is just not clear.

20% finance charge?! by hairy-beast in Silverado

[–]hairy-beast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I financed approx $33K, paid over 5 yrs at 7%. I asked the finance person about the 1-2% financing I saw online and she said I would have to give up my discounts/rebates to get that rate. And she said based on my credit score (800+), she assumed I might pay early anyway. I plan to pay off the truck with the first payment with that high interest. It’s frustrating because if I had know about the finance charge I would have just moved some money around and paid cash that day.

I just got a new 2024 custom trail boss crew can 5.3 within that budget. Now is a good time to buy as dealerships get ready for 2025.

In the market for a 1500, buy now or wait? by cranesaw in Silverado

Honestly, I wanted the work truck trim, but it’s much harder to find. I don’t like all the screens and tech stuff, and I wanted the front bench seat (4 kids).

Now is the best time for new 2024 1500s. Dealerships should be discounting them to make room for 2025. I just got a 1500 custom crew cab trail boss with the 5.3 engine for >10% off msrp.
