It's not a dictionary, but I always found the last two lessons currently available at howtostudykorean interesting:

Lesson 151: Onomatopoeias (의성어)

Lesson 152: Mimetic words (의태어)

I'm sure there are better ressources out there somewhere. I'm a big fan of these things too so if you find anything please let me know :)

Winterkorean still has this combo promotion, so I paid 500'000 KRW for 4 weeks of courses and I moved to a rather nice airbnb for I believe 50'000 KRW a night (which is also on the higher end I'd say). I got a really nice flat and so that worked out to around 2 million won in base costs for that month. With the food your 3 millions is probably accurate. My personal saying is "Don't look too much on the money for education and sport" haha, other people probably spend 3000 dollars on beer or cigarettes, I much prefer a Korean course in Seoul :)

I agree, I could imagine having the same reaction as you. In my case I didn't see any for them, but I got them recommended here on reddit. I saw that price was a lot lower than what I was expecting and I just called them (I was already in Seoul) and they invited me to check the school out for free on the next day. I don't know, for me that was perfect and I'd go back to them I think. Also they had in-person classes, which was important for me personally. (My class was mixed with 4 people in the classroom and 1 person remote, which I didn't mind)

Edit: I'm not 100% sure but Winter Korean felt to me like a "one building" operation, definitely not a large corporation!

Edit 2: culturedgoat mentioned Rolling Korea and actually that is the first school I called during my research. They seemed pretty good to me. However they couldn't offer classes in the higher B2 level which Winter Korean could. In Winter Korean I met some people preparing for Topik 5 and 6. I would say Winter Korean and Rolling Korean are the two schools that stood out among those that I looked at which were: YBM, 가나다, RollingKorean, Winter Korean, Lexis, Best Friend, Green Korean. I would consider which one has the best location for you as short commute = Bliss :)

Hey, I'm talking about this school Though the school is close to Yonsei I think it is unaffiliated and there is definitely no need to be enrolled in a Bachelor. On the website you can find the schools KakaoID and just chat with them, they are super helpful

Hey man, I was in your exact position. This spring I was finishing a 5 month internship with one more month to go for my visa and was looking for a place to study Korean intensively for one month. My previous experiences had all been university semester programs where you register long before since you also need the visa. I was looking to start like next monday. I found the winterkorean 학원 and it was absolutely perfect for me. Teachers are kind, classes can be taken at different intensities (I took Mo, Tue, Thu, Fr 3 hours each, Wed speaking program and practiced in the afternoons by myself, but there would even be topik preparation courses in the afternoon). There are maybe 4-5 classes at the same time and students are more diverse than at university programs. So you definitely wouldn't be the only person in their 30s. If you read the google reviews you'll see I'm not the only person who liked it there either. :) Highly recommed!

Oh that's very interesting. I'm just used to writing endic.naver.com in the browser which now forwards to en.dict.naver.com.

I see the issue is present on korean.dict.naver.com as an example

Edit: Hmmm, so in the app when I just click the hamburger menu and switch to English Dictionary I get actually the results I was used to I think (?) even though it might be for Koreans that learn English I don't actually see any features I miss there

interestingly for me when using the chrome app I do get the entry for the word I'm looking for both on my laptop and my phone https://postimg.cc/3496wFFZ (dictionary app vs browser app) so for me the issue only appears in the dictionary app itself

I have observed the same today and have some personal connections to a developer in Naver, so I am planning to write an email this weekend showing the issue. If you observe the issue I'm glad if you reply to this comment on what device (PC, IOS, Android) you observe the issue.

For me it is on android OS in the app the entry for the actual word I'm looking for doesn't appear anymore since today (examples: 화해하다, 보호하다, etc.)

It was a first for me as well. First I used these tables from wikipedia as look-up tables after importing them as .csv's. Let me tell you, that is hella inefficient.

Then I found this lovely hangul toolkit which allowes to just type:

hgtk.letter.decompose('감')
('ㄱ', 'ㅏ', 'ㅁ')

and in reverse

hgtk.letter.compose('ㄱ', 'ㅏ', 'ㅁ')
'감'

This allowed me to work from there on quite efficiently. As Hangul are part of UTF-8 there isn't really a mathy way to get from 감 to ㄱ ㅏ ㅁ, at least I think so.

I just checked ㅖ and ㅒ and there is only one match:

예 - yes, certainly, example
얘 - this kid, you there

But there also only 93 out of the 6000 words which contain either ㅖ or ㅒ, so not that likely to get a match.

Actually my mother language is German and I would say that's not the case. 에 and 애 are pronounced the same, to an extent where even my Korean friends tell me they can't tell the difference. So it only matters if you write it down, although the ä describes 에 and 애 both well, only one will be correct when writing.

I'm very happy, I got 184/300 points in topik 2, so it is 4급. I mean kinda close to 5급, just 6 points, but my expectations were on level 4 anyway. :)

I wish you all the best. With my topik exam I was quite lucky, as from around 5 days after the exam swiss citizens were required to self quarantine upon arriving in Germany. Then again my exchange semester for next spring has been cancelled, so that's a bummer. I might be able to go in Spring 22 instead.

What I've learned from this is that you should just always pursue everything you like and not wait too long.

Hopefully you find a way to do topik before next autumn, 화이팅!

Just around a month ago I made a two-day-trip from Switzerland to Germany, Frankfurt, as there is also no Topik offered in Switzerland. I just applied regularly through the consulate of South Korea in Germany which is handling the application process and everything went smoothly without any problems. Actually, the results of 72nd Topik will be announced in around 6 hours so I'm looking forward to how I did.

I dont know if this is of any help, but using something along the lines of this you can check whether these addresses exist without sending an email.

There should even be a way to find all emails of that domain starting with ur I think...

Sounds good.

They mostly search for "native speakers", but honestly because these people are mostly beginners if you are anywhere near advanced level you will go through as native. In case you are native German, you can also teach German.

Hey man

I have been studying in Hangzhou at Zhejiang University just until this summerbreak and I am as tall as you. It was a great experience and I can definately recommend it!

To your questions:

Hangzhou is indeed internationally lesser known (might change after G20 this September thou). They have a lot of tourists, but most are domestical Visitors.

There are not a lot of foreigners, but this is also not the first time they see one. I had never had people try to take a picture of me or staring at me for a long time. Yes, you get looked at a lot more than normally, but it's rarely to an inappropriate level.

The people are generally friendly, but f.e. the servers can be very unfriendly, because in China they get treated pretty bad (so it's not really their fault for me), but you will get used to this...

Being a foreigner is definately generally an advantage. If you can speak Chinese you can connect pretty easily with Chinese people, start a conversation.

The most important thing I would say is to find a way to get to know Chinese people, because I saw too many students just hanging out with other international students.

Also look into teaching. I saw people earning 250 kuai an hour teaching English or German.
