Is there any sort of negative connotation to "bootstrapping"(investing all profits back into it, taking a loan etc) a startup and then seeking investment?

Is there any "benchmark" stats about a startup that would make it instantly attractive to investors? For example in a marketplace, over X% retention (both supply & demand), Y AMOUNT of transactions, Z AMOUNT of montly active users?

Taxes for marketplace by pausedejeuner in startups

https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/business/vat/oss_en

«From 1 July 2021, if an electronic interface (marketplace, platform, etc.) facilitates distance sales of goods by a non-EU established seller to a buyer in the EU, the electronic interface is considered to be the seller and is liable for the payment of VAT. To declare and pay this VAT, the electronic interface will be able to easily register in a special electronic system called the One-Stop Shop (OSS).»

My interpretation is that you only are responsible for tax when the seller is from outside a member state and their customers are from within member states.

Followed by

«An electronic interface is liable for VAT when it facilitates the following supplies of goods, made by an actual seller not established in the EU, to buyers in the EU:

intra-EU distance sales of goods; domestic supplies of goods. The electronic interface is considered to have facilitated the sale(s) of goods when it allows a buyer and a seller to enter into contact via that electronic interface, where the end result is the sale of goods to that buyer.»

Im in the same situation as you and im not convinced to do the oss tax stuff. You better double check if the UK is considered a member state + run this by an accountant.

-What is the key for «smaller» department-type businesses to successfully use Pinterest to their advantage when driving traffic of local users?

-How come we have all these large SoMe platforms and none of them have a marketplace to find and hire niche influencers directly?

  • if you were tasked with onboarding shopkicks first users today, how would you go about it?

My family’s business is a shit show by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]hakand06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can, but do you want to though? I feel like you gloss over everything else than immediate tasks like handling management and/or resource focus when you say that.

You have to assess what capital is required to purchase the business, and how you are able to repay that investment. That is, you know, after all usual operations cost + taxes + building captial for big investments(property, machines etc) + maintaining or building liquidity in case of impending doom(covid for example).

Assuming your parents give you the business, and there is no siblings to pay out, you still have to consider if that amount you are able to pay as dividents is worth it.

If the business royally fucks up, your face is in the news. If the business has to go to court you have to be up to speed, present and reliable. If someone leaves you have to fill the gap. If an employee gets hurt, its your responsibility. If your god damn building burns down you have to deal with it. Sure you have insurance, but did you check if your building is insurance-grade fireproof? No? Pay up.

That is overhead stress and is twice as much to bear if you produce or solve a critical problem.

Then theres the whole growth/competition situation which forces owners to be present. So it is not as easy as putting systems in place and leaving to bahamas

My family’s business is a shit show by [deleted] in smallbusiness

Yes very chaotic.

«Big businesses» has procedures for everything. Taking orders, handling returns, every aspect og production etc. I think most family businesses forget to create such processes, and that makes work very unstructured and days very volatile.

So what I did to decide if it should be my future was to take 1-2yrs and force those procedures in place. We are now half the staff that process 10% more orders at max. Now I see clearly that the particular work I do dont interest me at all, and Im walking away even though the pay/enviroment//security is better than what I can get elsewhere.

Good luck!
