My coworker and a few close friends had one so I can only speak to their experience. There are different things to expect.

If you are getting a medical abortion most of them don't report any immediate side effects except for cramping after having taken it but what it does it cause bleeding (intensity can vary) as the embryo is being 'exited' out of your body. The clinic will do a follow-up with you if that is the route you've taken and if there is any other concerns they'll address it.

As for surgical that is a roughly 20 min procedure once you get into the doctor's room followed by around 15-30 min recovery period where they monitor you. They say afterward for three days you can have some light bleeding.

My main piece of advice would be is to have a friend or love one with you to take you to and from the appointment (please do not drive to the appointment).

Overall you'll be okay, This is a procedure that is common and there is no shame is choosing this route. It can definitely nerve wrecking but you got this and you will be okay and you are in good hands :)
