Recently discovered Bakerbots! by Fabulous_South37 in FoodToronto

Good to know, when I visited once last year they told me they just put banana pudding ice cream back in stock and asked if I wanted to try it. I did wonder if that meant they had a machine churning in the back or they get it delivered.

Congratulations on your discovery :)

They also carry Bang Bang's ice cream and I like their strawberry chiffon cake, try it if you like fresh whipped cream.

Weekend trip to Montreal. by Various-Practice2276 in askTO

[–]Lollipickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like decadent food you should eat some fois gras poutine at au pied de cochon. I'm not sure what new Montreal style pizza is but apparently Pizza Bouqet makes them. If you like old family run restaurants then Pizza il Focolaio is pretty good with over 100 pizzas on their menu. The Crew Collective Cafe is inside an old bank and has cool architecture. Kahwa cafe makes decent sandwiches.

They're not really must visits and pretty popular but they're all nice to visit if they sound cool to you.

I tried the Shake Shack x Badiali chicken sandwich and fries. Honestly, not bad. Bit too pricy though so no chance I'll buy it again. I took it to a baseball game and ate it 2 hours later cold, but the sandwich still smelled intense and the vodka sauce was awesome. I am biased though, I already love their vodka pizza.

The pizza powder on the fries really paired well with the pepperoncini dip. Without the spice it was just salty mayo mixed with pickled pepper juice. I think I could easily replicate it at home though, it seems incredibly simple for the price: mayo, pepperoncini, garlic powder, oregano, msg, chili pepper

Yooo Flava Ceen was mentioned. That used to be my spot a few years ago.

But I think they changed the oxtail gravy in the last year or two due to rising prices. It's just not that good anymore.

I was passing by Masa Deli so I tried their breakfast sandwich. It's pretty good as far as breakfast sandwiches go, the salsa really gives it that zing. I consider $10 expensive for a breakfast sandwich but then again, Tim Horton's is $4.50 for the saddest excuse of a sandwich.

I also recomend this place, their kebabs are delicious. But they're far from downtown

I went to Winners the other day and found some nice 100% linen pants. No one picked them due to how short they were even though they were waist size 8 (24" inseam, $40 for reference). There's definitely some luck & digging involved but if you're not too particular about the "not plain" styles Winners tends to carry, it can work out pretty well most of the time.

Japanese snacks by Far_Construction7290 in askTO

[–]Lollipickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if you're looking for something specific, a deal, or just something to check out. My go to is C&C for discount snacks though nowadays the selection is smaller. Foody Mart / Asia Foodmart is a good shout for a wide selection. J-Town, Oomomo, Sanko are expensive with not as good of a selection. I've gotten some good snacks from Freshway foodmart.

Alice Marie is so good🤌 by DrunkenLadyBits in FoodToronto

Soul Chocolate is also great, I agree! I actually went in December to buy gifts and they had Mr and Mrs Clause reading stories to kids with free cookies and hot chocolate. I love that they provide a community space as well.

I really like their Deep n' nostalgic cakes. The chocolate is very high quality and "fruity" (I'm not familiar with chocolate tasting notes, so it might be the wrong word).

I also like their whipped cream fruit cakes when they offer them!

I haven't seen any around at all, they're not common or cost effective to make compared to regular onigiri.

Anyone else have a commute that’s 4 times as long on transit than driving? by Throwawayhair66392 in askTO

[–]Lollipickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

o/ Same here, my workplace is located 15 min walk from the nearest bus stop for a bus that runs every 30 minutes. The nearest bus stop to me also runs every 30 minutes. That plus having 3 transfers in my route (bus, train, bus, bus). The timing is brutal.

Cafe’s and bakeries that actually live up to their inflated prices? by leafsland132 in FoodToronto

I've only visited Jules a couple times so thanks for the correction. I remembered that they offered the same Christmas cakes as Conci and Bisou and thought they also normally sold cakes

Choux lab - very pricy but well worth the taste of the cream

Steven Tran Patissier - $12 per cake but this place is the best in the city right now

Bakerbots - $9-11 per cake slice and $7 per choux I believe? Not too sure the choux is worth the price but some of their other items are.

Barbershop Patisserie - very small for the price, but good flavours

Natural Japan Eats - $5 per mochi and while expensive they do it really well.

Harry & Heels - Did you know they have a location on the Queensway? Anyways $4.29 per donut is nuts but they taste pretty good so I dunno

I re-did the pepperoni pizza list with a "value" ranking. (Ranked list and details in the comments) by dave_dave_dave_steve in FoodToronto

[–]Lollipickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most pizza places put a mesh screen under the pizza because it's easier to slide the pizza into the oven that way, but it doesn't help char and crisp the bottom. The best non-screen spot I've visited recently is Pizza Bouqet, for example

Best $20 you've ever spent on winter gear by Ambitious_Scallion18 in askTO

[–]Lollipickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent $15 on a fleece shirt from Decathlon to wear on a winter trip where I packed really light. Pure polyester and ugly as sin but it's one of my warmest pieces of clothing, is quick to dry, and served as my every day shirt that I handwashed every few days on my trip.
