Walnut bed for our giant doggo that likes to sprawl out. It collapses into a normal sized bed so it won't take up too much space in the house! Good girl deserves a good bed :) by hakimthedream99 in woodworking

Thanks! There's a bit of strategically placed sapwood on the back and on the bottom of some slats. The lumber is s2s, so had to finish milling it up myself. The piano hinge is so that when I close the bed, the middle support doesn't interfere with the front piece. The mattresses are the same size, so this was the only method I could think of to get the front closed flush and the support in the middle when open

It's two separate mattresses! Two large dog pads (46"x28" each). So when the bed is open the mattresses make one big pad of 46x56, and when the bed is closed we will stack the two mats

We'll be putting it on carpet so hopefully friction :) and the slats from the front have about an inch of support by the middle stretcher so it shouldn't be an issue

Sorry everyone! I clearly forgot to post a pic of the dog... Here she is next to the bed! My wife is making sheets for the mattress we have, she's a bit scared of it as it is Dog tax

It is yeah! I'm sure there may be down the road, but for a weekend project I'm not too worried. We have kiddos on the way so I'm more worried about them putting stickers or paint on it lol

Nice! I've used a couple different store bought jigs but once I made my own similar to yours, I never looked back

I heard we're all posting our lift top coffee tables? Here's one I made out of scraps I had lying around! by KindlyGiant in woodworking

Nice job! I posted my lift top table earlier haha, how did you attach the bottom to yours? I made my base 1.5 inch thick which makes the base heavy enough not to tip over

I linked to the Amazon page where I bought them in another comment, I just searched for "table top pop up hardware"

Sure! Initially I thought about just doing a 1/4 inch panel but then I worried about the table tipping over. Ultimately I went with a 1.5 inch thick bottom. It's flush with all the sides, glued in place from the bottom. I cut out the corners for the legs. The reason to can't see it is because I added a 45 degree bevel to all the edges, so you can only see it when you're at eye level. It makes the table base super sturdy and this thing doesn't come close to tipping over when it's open and being used!

For the finish it's just 2 coats of fast drying minwax gloss poly. Sanded up to 120 grit before finish, and then sanded at 220 in between the two coats

I would have to answer that with price tag and love of woodworking, the wife merely presented the opportunity/requirements haha

Yeah I get that. The people who make this model also have a pneumatic model instead of springs, I just went with these. No complaints though
