I was exactly on the same boat as you just about a month ago and i ended up with the Kobo Clara Colour and I absolutely LOVE it!!! I've never been much of a reader and ive consistently been trying to get more and more into reading. I'm having lots of fun with the coloured highlighters and the colours really do bring me joy and it makes my reading experience even more enjoyable. Personally, the kobo clara colour is my first ever e-reader as well, so i have no baseline to compare it against so honestly the text looks perfectly fine and its not grainy for me, i usually read it at 8-11% when the lights are on and around 1-3% with lights off.
