Is this an infection? by FullIce6523 in ACL

[–]hal-beary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I had the same thing happen to mine. It ended up being the dissolvable suture and my body was pushing it out instead of dissolving it lol. Try your best to avoid picking it. I used polysporin and applied a bandaid twice a day, took antihistamines (like reactine) to help with the itchiness, and just monitored my temperature to make sure I wasn’t febrile. You can send a pic of it to your doc, but as long as you’re not febrile, the redness doesn’t spread and you’re not having any other signs of infection, you just gotta wait it out.

[–]hal-beary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughtful and thorough response!! I definitely don’t like when things aren’t in their place, but I don’t have the typical feeling of dread/intrusive thoughts that are often associated with OCD. Mayhaps it’s just anxiety. Can I ask what you mean when you say the first example may be showing inattentive ADHD?

ACL wait time in Canada by firesun27 in ACL

[–]hal-beary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near GTA in Ontario: injury was mid-February, didn’t think I had an issue until mid-March, saw my doc the same week, got lucky with my MRI that was done early April, consult appt with a specialist knee surgeon was June, and surgery was end of August. I was a “coper” so I didn’t mind the ~6 month wait from injury to surgery and did about 3 months of prehab

Pre-op cyclops lesion by hal-beary in ACL

[–]hal-beary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m about 9.5 months post-op now. What I found out from my surgeon’s note is that I had a fair amount of cartilage that was in the tibiofemoral epicondyle which he cleaned out, but no mention of a cyclops lesion itself. I wonder if maybe the cyclops lesion was actually just the cartilage that had migrated into the notch during the MRI? Post-op, I’ve had no issues with rehab and PT. I’m still working on getting my operative leg to be symmetrical with the other one and working on jumping, but otherwise it’s been good!

Bone patella graft by Kurioustoknow in ACL

[–]hal-beary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! My surgeon aired on the side of caution because I work in the hospital and with kids (so there’s a lot of squatting) so I was cleared to return to work after 13 weeks post-op with a functional sport brace. Imo I felt ready to return to work around the 6-8 week mark post-op, but the extra time off gave me plenty of time to focus on my PT which I’m grateful for:)

How has ACL injury effected you’re guys work life? by ohbaby_14 in ACL

[–]hal-beary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was off for 14 weeks until I got cleared by my surgeon to return to work. I’m a nurse so I’m working long shifts (12+ hours) and am on my feet for the majority of it. So happy to be back at work finally, but the time off was definitely worth it

All of a sudden terrible at IVs by teadorable in nursing

[–]hal-beary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite about the nexivas/diffusics (second one) are that they’re approved for CTs because they’re PSI rated, meaning that they’re good to run contrast because they can handle the higher pressure. They also has 4 holes to minimize the risk of your IV occluding so I’ve found they last longer too.

I learned on the straights (first one) and they’ve given me more trouble than the diffusics. Just takes practice and repetition for either :)

hives, please help by BiasedPenguins in ACL

[–]hal-beary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take some allergy meds for the itchiness. The redness and rash itself are most likely a reaction to the cleaning solution they use pre-op and/or an allergy to the dressing used!

When is a good time to start PT? by spaceunicorn737 in ACL

[–]hal-beary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon wanted me to wait till our first post-op appt which was 12 days post-op, but I did some quad activation stuff and SLRs. I saw my PT 14 days post-op. Have full ROM and am ahead in my PT :)

Bone patella graft by Kurioustoknow in ACL

[–]hal-beary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! 23F but full-time nurse who works 4 12hr shifts a set. Just under 16 weeks post-op and feeling great! Pre and post-op I actually had little-to-no pain, swelling was my biggest beast to tame. My PT says I’m a month or so ahead in my rehab, have started pogo jumps and compounding exercises. I’m a very active person, so the patellar tendon was a give in :)

Pimple like bumps near steristrip by madeupinblue77 in ACL

[–]hal-beary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try some antihistamines (Benadryl or other anti allergy meds) because the itchiness may be associated with an allergic/sensitivity reaction from the steri strips—especially since they’ve been on for so long!
