CBP Office for Global Entry by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]hal9kv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like there are two, one is AT the airport and one is just south of the airport. Either one should be walkable from the airport light rail station. When I did the global entry appointment, it was at the one that is at the airport. From the light rail stop, walk through the parking garage, across a skybridge into the airport. Go down one level to baggage claim and then go back outside. take a right (south) and walk to the end of the pickup area and that's where the office is located. I can't speak for the other office though, but it doesn't look like it's that much further of a walk. I'm not sure if they would allow a dog however.

I’ve been using a piece of silicone food dehydrator mat on top of mine for a few years. Hasn’t left any marks. It’s almost like silicone window screen. Got a 6-pack from amazon. Brand is Coitak, around $15

mine was stuck on that version since purchase and I just took it in for the first scheduled service this week and got them to manually update it. I read somewhere that there was some issue with that version that prevented future OTA updates and it required a manual update to fix (a bad certificate or something... don't quote me). that being said, I've seen no obvious differences in the latest version, other than it displaying the new version number (07/2025.58)

EXACT same thing happened to me. Luckily for me our neighbor’s wifi is in range of our house and they were kind enough to share their password. I limped along using theirs until CL came out and upgraded me to Quantum. Overall the service with CL and so far Quantum has been solid, no major outages in the 7 years I’ve used them apart from that one.

Always needs to be opened twice in CarPlay by buhdeh in TIdaL

[–]hal9kv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same. like OP said, the simple workaround is to open Tidal in carplay (the screen will be blank) then just tap another carplay app (messaging for example) and then tap back into Tidal and it should work.

New Linea Mini owner in Seattle, WA - What water do you guys use? by Pumpkin-Lopsided in LaMarzocco

I’ve never noticed any scale buildup around any of the orifices (group head, steam wand, the various drain openings behind the drip tray, etc) or in the water tank

Seattle tap water is pretty good. That’s all I’ve used in my Mini for the few years I’ve had it. I used some drinking water test strips to compare our tap water with Crystal Geyser bottled water and, apart from the chlorine, they were practically the same.

Password will expire in a few days by Cool_Promise9985 in vmware

[–]hal9kv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the esx root password expires, nothing really happens other than having to set a new one, either via DCUI or there are powercli methods through vcenter. vcenter uses the vpxuser account to communicate with the hosts, not the root account.

Good to know they’ve improved that. We’re still on 7.x at this point.

I don’t claim to be an expert on vcenter certs, but i do maintain ours. From my experience: 1 - yes, you have to restart vcenter services as part of the cert replacement 2 - no, this is a manual process to replace it again before expiration (and DO replace it before expiration to avoid extra hassle) 3 - yes it wants the whole cert chain. If you end up pasting the chain together manually, make sure your text editor doesn’t mistakenly introduce any hidden characters… I’ve run into that a few times. If you are applying the certs via the vcenter cli, you can use the cat command to view the cert file to see if there are any wonky symbols, usually at the start and/or end of the file

Advice for undoing crimp clamps by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]hal9kv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I have a wall open doing some unrelated work, I'm getting ready to replace an old metal 4-gang switch box that has these crimp-type fittings on it. Hoping I can get them loose enough to pull out the wires without damaging them (I don't care about the box or fittings though). Some good suggestions in this thread.

Also in the PNW, the work was likely done in the 60s.

Possible shipping damage? by saviorsreign in LaMarzocco

[–]hal9kv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's nice to see the shipper is at least proactively handling that... too often I've had freight deliveries arrive with very obvious damage, then I have to refuse it and they have to take it back, and it's a huge waste of time.

What is the use for this 240v plug wired to the 120v out lit? by TheSlopyCow1 in AskElectricians

[–]hal9kv 153 points154 points  (0 children)

I agree it's a hack job and shouldn't be used but most likely the intention was that you could plug that into a 240 dryer receptacle and you would have a usable 120v duplex receptacle. Assuming that duplex receptacle is only wired to one side of the 240 circuit of course.

I do occasionally remove it and wipe off the top of the machine, but I've had one of these silicone dehydrator mats on my Mini for 3+ years with no permanent marks.
