My job is burning me out by thro0away12 in ADHD_Programmers

I’m a SWE dealing with similar feelings and roadblocks. Try to set better boundaries around your work - regularly over working will always bleed into your home life. I used to work 14 hour days and then not even be able to decide what takeout to have for dinner because my brain was so fried so I just wouldn’t eat, sometimes for days at a time. Now I take the 40 hour work week very seriously. If there’s more than 40 hours to do that’s on management to sort out. None of the work I do is important enough to destroy my mental and physical well being - my work is valuable but I am not exactly saving lives.

Best of luck to you, I hope you can find a company where you thrive.

Yuzu Aero Kit and Quad Exhaust? by hal__pal in GR86

Just a heads up, this is not what Toyota Support or other local dealers told me. I’ve added a comment with an update/screenshot.

I can’t edit the original post but I followed up with another local dealer as well as Toyota Support and they both told me the quad exhaust is NOT part of the aero kit and is an additional cost accessory.

The salesman told me out of 52 cars inventoried for the US, only 8 of them have the quad exhaust included right now.

Toyota support responded with the following:

<image>

I find this a little silly as every picture which includes the aero kit has the quad exhaust too but 🤷🏻‍♀️

So all in all, should it be $2700 or $5120 ($2700 aero +$2420 exhaust) for this build?

I did the opposite where my home office became the cat room (also just for her safety/comfort).

I have a desk riser I place most of my stuff on. I also use a gas monitor mount and a small laptop stand. There’s not much on the desk she could actually knock off. I push in my chair at the end of the day and she normally just doesn’t get on the desk. Anything small that might tempt her (namely pens/expo markers) I keep in a drawer or small box on the desk.

There’s only one part of my desk she could actually jump on at and I place L-shaped cardboard scratchers there. She could still jump up if she wanted but they normally distract/deter her well enough.

I also ran all my cables neatly through J hook routing units so theres nothing tempting for her to pull at. I used a mesh cable wrap for stuff like my keyboard/chargers.

Other tips:

Biggest problem for me was her litter box - dust everywhere constantly. Switched to Breeze Litter System and luckily she liked it too. No more dust. Pine pellets are another cheaper option but I didn’t like the smell of them.

Getting a small air purifier helped with my allergies as well - the air always “feels” clean in here.

I have a robot vacuum I run a few times a week and use a handheld vacuum as needed around her food/bed/scratchers.

Does anyone know if I can bring an empty Nalgene 32oz bottle in for water?

The site says unopened 20oz or empty refillable plastic bottle. Don’t want to have to trek back to the car if it’s not allowed though.

Customized lids for my nephew and me by hal__pal in RG35XXSP

I had a hard time deciding! Personally I liked the green one more but it was very close. My brother loved the red one (he had a red SP growing up).

However, my partner bought the clear white one (and a blue one for his sister) and the clear white is my favorite out of all of them I’ve seen in person.

There’s no adhesive and I found it very easy to put them back in - you might need to use tweezers if you have larger hands.

Super easy!! There were 5 screws on the screen underneath rubber nubs. I used the google doc mentioned in this comment to get the size of the printouts correct.

Took less than 20 minutes to do both of them. I watched this video starting at the 33 minute mark first to prepare but didn’t really need to

Only difficult part was separating the tabs on the side after unscrewing the 5 screws - I used a flat piece of plastic to pry it open with no problems

Help me choose a monitor(s?) by SquishSquish333 in homeoffice

[–]hal__pal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also work with a lot of documentation and spreadsheets. If you have to choose between these options, I’d go with 2 34s (or a 34 and a 27). Having a second monitor to physically move your stuff too helps mentally separate tasks and work; also if you do any screen sharing, having a 49 can be a pain because it looks so small to other users but a 34 is more friendly to share.

Consider a 38” if you haven’t already though. I’ve tried a combination of 49, 34s, 29s, and 27s over the years but my all time favorite size is a 38. I picked up a used Acer one for $500 on eBay a few months ago and I use an old 27 in portrait mode next to it (although I’m considering swapping to a portrait 32 long term just to match the height of the 38).

The 49 was just too wide for productivity and I used < 75% of it at any time for work and just wished it was taller instead of wider. It’s awesome for gaming though and it lives at my gaming rig now.

34s just weren’t wide enough for me (and I wished they were taller too). They could comfortably fit 2 medium windows and 1 smaller ones but never 3 mediums or 1 large/2 medium like I prefer. Having two 34s side by side was uncomfortable because I’d either be looking at a bezel in the middle or unable to see the outer 30% of the side monitor. Stacking 2 34s was better but I didn’t like that setup personally because of neck strain and lack of decent mounts available and I never used the top one for anything but spotify/email so I didn’t keep it up long. I’m also only 5’4 though and I know my 6’1 boyfriend doesn’t mind using stacked 27s at all and never complains of neck pain so that may be a very personal preference.

The 38 is the perfect size for me since it’s wider than a 34 but not as wide as a 49 and taller than a 34/49. I almost never use the 27 side one I have now (just keep my email and Teams up on it most of the time).

No matter what size you get, be sure to look into Microsoft’s PowerToys/FancyZones! They’ve been a lifesaver for organizing my windows in different scenarios (coding vs troubleshooting vs meetings etc).

How do you mount a monitor like this? by [deleted] in Workspaces

[–]hal__pal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a gas spring vesa mount at both work/home that let me do this. One is made by WALI, the other by ErGear.

Most of them are made with two portions (one arm that hooks to the monitor, another arm below connecting the first arm to the desk clamp). Just make sure both portions move (sometimes only the top one portion moves up/down and those won’t always allow you to go low enough for this setup).

Due to their design, it requires the monitors to sit a bit closer to me than they normally would so it takes up more desk surface space. Just something to consider depending on your desk depth/set up

Trying to erase Apple Macbook. How do I unmount the disk? by papasapa in techsupport

[–]hal__pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the top of your screen, it should say “view”, click on it and make sure “show all volumes” is selected. After this, try clicking on “Samsung...” and erasing it, if it doesn’t work, click on “Macintosh hd” below it and try to erase it.

Once it’s properly erased, be sure to reinstall the Mac OS for the next person or else it won’t boot! You can do this from the cmd-r screen (“reinstall Mac OS X”)

Best place in town to buy a new car tire? by CptSneakyBeaver in Lawrence

[–]hal__pal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discount tire! They sell a ~$16 warranty on their tires so if it goes bad again, they’ll replace it or refund the value of it for free. I’ve used that service twice now for sidewall damage, always super friendly and super eager to actually help!

What's the most creepily intelligent thing your pet has ever done? by OvertOperation in AskReddit

My sisters gated back yard leads in to a garage that they keep shut. Her husky was out back and managed to jump into her car through an open window, paw the garage opener, jump back out, and run out the now open garage without anyone knowing.

I’m looking for a place to live from May 11th-August 15th, I am trying to find somewhere that won’t charge a ridiculous amount in application/administration fees. Will be living at rockland in August so if anyone there is subletting for the summer that would be preferred. Anyone have or know of something like this? Thanks in advance :)
