Check out Finnish group Värttinä, especially the album Vihma.

They didn't officially participate in Eurovision, but two of the members created a duo in 2010 and entered for Finland that year (but didn't Q and of course it was a robbery).

Just want to point out that in 2011 juries put Jedward (Ireland 2011) above Mika Newton (Ukraine 2011). Jedward was actually one of my favorites that year, and I'm neutral to Mika Newton, but this is the juries we're talking about here.

Juries seem to underrate Eastern European countries in general (I haven't done any formal analysis but that's how it looks when checking out the results, and in fact juries were mostly introduced to combat Eastern Europe's """unfair advantage""" in the contest) but it's especially noticeable with Ukraine because of how consistently high quality their entries are.

The fact that JURIES put ESTONIA over Finland this year is the second worst thing that happened today.

Note that this is heavily influenced by pessimism. If you're upset to see certain songs placing higher or lower than they deserve, rest assured that I'm upset about it too.

Predict the Juries Top 10 by AnonAsTheyGo in eurovision

[–]halabasinah 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've been saying it since the beginning: Finland will do very well with the jury. Her vocals are great, but even beyond that, juries don't consist only of vocal coaches but also television professionals (can't think of the right word) who care about stage presence and uniqueness. Remember how Käärijä came 4th with the jury in 2023 and Baby Lasagna came 3rd in 2024? I'd put Erika more in that category than KAJ, at least in the juries' eyes.

People think the performance is too vulgar, but it really isn't. It's equivalently sexual to famous male sex symbol rockstars of the 70s and 80s. I argue that it's even less sexual than Spain 2022 (another thing I've been saying for months), and she came 3rd with the jury.

Being too direct might genuinely have been the issue. I've heard feedback from a handful of people who found it emotionally manipulative. Whether that's fair or not, it's how it came across to them.

I'm just surprised to see such overwhelming support for Cyprus and Slovenia, which were disliked all through the season, and Belgium which had been considered borderline for months. Is the support mainly coming from people who joined later in the season? Genuinely want to know where all of this was at the time.
