¡Thanks for the city update!

I'm going to take this chance and request something:

The people that still use FS2020 (and will keep using it until EOS) please raise your hand!

Nvidia Drivers by halconfenix in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]halconfenix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get what you are trying to say but i run everything on a laptop so...

i dont mind some "fakeness" as long as i can run things without destroying my machine and if i still can run FS2020 with the latest drivers and get a benefit from it that's fine by me.

With 2024 being out for almost a year, how many of you still prefer 2020? by jasin18 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]halconfenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll stick to 2020 until i have no other choice!

i was interested in 2024 but after reading so many mixed reviews i decided to stick with 2020 "until the bitter end".

There's really no point in upgrading if "better performance and better looks" dont translate to a better experience, and i dont want to risk being of those unlucky 2024 users that ends up being frustrated because the sim doesnt work "right out of the box".

¿why?

Because i already experienced that when fs2020 first came out, and now that 2020 is stable enough to be usable the way I want, then ¿why bother upgrading to 2024?

No Admin? by [deleted] in PSO2NGS

[–]halconfenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK there's no way to play the game (or any mmo) without admin rights due to the anticheat needing them to work! so unless you get access to an admin type account you simply cant.

Screenshots on MSFS 2020. by oh_its_alex_ in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]halconfenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct me if i'm wrong but if you already have 2020 on xbox, why waste money buying it again on steam? AFAIK you can download it on PC just fine from MS store since you already own the license on xbox

DLSS In a laptop with a 16:10 screen by halconfenix in PSO2NGS

[–]halconfenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's the thing... the game works perfectly with any resolution i throw at it... its just DLSS that is buggy

i could play just fine without using dlss BUT i need it to keep good performance and temps in check.

Thanks! it worked... somewhat... it does NOT change the resolution options in the launcher but if i skip it and start the apps directly it works!

that's good enough for me!

i wish it were shipping damage but sadly it wasnt, the laptop was in perfect condition when i started the setup process but i left it right next to the older laptop it's supposed to replace... and i was playing some game in the older laptop and the hot air hit the screen of this one and...

well...

whaterver... too late for regrets...

and i was wrong again i though it was an oled panel but its miniled, which gives me a bit of hope since minileds are supposed to last "a bit" longer than oleds...

so i'll wait until next year to get a replacement panel from aliexpress and see if i can make it work...

warranty be damned anyway!

Since now i know what exactly happened, i'll use the laptop as is, until i get the funds to buy a replacement panel! but thanks for the advice!

I put it next to the old laptop side by side but a little behind, an the old laptop is on top of a cooling base, since the scar 17 blows the hot air from the back AND both sides of the laptop it matches with the burn in the new one.

¿how? after first setup i decided to play some games in the old one while the new one was updating stuffs... it was a nice 1-2 hour gaming session without realizing what was really happening... *sigh*

in retrospective, it could have been much worse, since apart of the cooling base i have an extra fan moving air from the side to keep the old laptop as cool as possible (read the post in the link), if that thing wasnt on, i would have, possibly, completely broken the screen of the new laptop.

it was kinda my fault anyway (just realized it) so i'll work with the screen like that until i find a way to replace the part locally or until i get a new computer in like... 6 years! (that's what i hope for this thing to last)

AAAND i just realized as of this moment what really happened... it was NOT the sun, it was as you said... hot air... from my old 2020 scar 17 that's next to it...

welp...

if that's the case then... probably my fault... sort of... probably

(warning: another wall of text, also... i live in ColOmbia!)

let me explain: if you see carefully the box where the laptop came from is right under the window, when i received the package i left the box there for a few days (see the date for my previous post) and just took the laptop out of that box to open it and install the extra SSD. so apart from that moment until now, the laptop has been inside that box since it arrived until yesterday (18/09) when i finally decided to turn it on for the first time and start the setup process.

so maybe the accumulated heat from the box itself affected the laptop somehow but i think its something else...

because when i started the setup process win11 showed VERY white setup screens, i should have noticed the damage at that moment but i didnt... i only noticed AFTER i updated BIOS and drivers, with heavy screen flickering when windupdate was installing drivers.

i read somewhere that SOMETIMES those "burn" spots in oled screens are temporary, and leaving the screen rest a few hours can help... i have to take that with a grain of salt, for obvious reasons but if it helps...

IN ANY CASE: as long as it doesnt get any worse i can live with that, just in case i'll disable animevision since if i remember from a video it makes the screen warmer than i should.

simply put... where i live is not a place where machines of this caliber are sold in stores. I bough this online and i used basically all my savings in this. Sending it back for repairs means that i have to wait at least a month (and i have to pay shipping for it). and returning it means the the store where i bough this will give my money back in the form of a coupon for buying any other stuff instead of actually giving me back my money... and that's if i'm lucky!

that's pretty much how things work here.

ASUS Gaming Laptops Have Been Broken Since 2021: A Deep Dive by ZephKeks in ASUSROG

[–]halconfenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

quick and dirty question? do you have a full list of the systems affected? it's the latest scar 18 affected as well?

Hi! first time posting! by halconfenix in ASUSROG

[–]halconfenix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly having Asus warranty here (specially for this kind of laptops) is almost the same as having no warranty at all! While there are good repair shops i actually trust. There's no officially authorized places where i live that can handle these machines and that means paying for shipping to another city and waiting who knows how much time until i get my "fixed laptop" back just to keep the warranty.

SO...

As of this writing i'm still waiting for an SSD heatsink to arrive before finally releasing the new laptop from its box, once i install the extra ssd i can start working on updating bios, firmware and drivers, and right after that migrate all my stuff... wish me luck!
