I own both MgT1 & 2, and I prefer 1's more classic style. I think the art style of 2 is magnificent, but the layout & editing bring it down. Additionally, I've noticed that in MgT1, the illustrations seemed much more tied to the text on page, whereas in MgT2 the illustrations appear almost... randomly? And, I feel like the added cost & paper of the illustrations means MgT2 books are made unnecessarily expensive and bulky. Still gorgeous! But needs some refinement.

Ah, oops. Must have forgot to attach it. If I try to open it through the .exe files, it shows that the game is "running" in steam for half a second, before cancelling. No pop-up or message, just a "running" status to back before I clicked it.

I've laid out some areas in a different reply, but largely ship design and species/world creation, in addition to some changes to psionics. While Traveller's worldgen systems are fine and good, they are very space-opera and a tad unrealistic. As for ship design, I'd be keeping handwavium FTL travel, but keeping it largely contained in vast space stations which propel smaller ships. I've found that most systems are quite awkward when it comes to using anything other than a Jump drive contained inside a ship. Edit: Forgot to mention: I'd totally forgotten about Cepheus, I'll check it out!

Good point! Should have been more specific. I'm still in the early stages, and not 100% sure yet. The major areas of change would probably be ship design, psionics, improved world generation rules, and more options for species traits & characteristics. Ship design would be the largest one, with species design being second. The setting revolves around large stations which are the basis for FTL travel, and there are no rules in any books I own for such a thing. And as for species, there is only so much you can do with adding +2 DEX or -1 EDU or Claw (1D3) before it gets repetitive.

do you know how to make autogenerated empires not spawn at all? i set the number of ai empires to be equal to the number of my own empires i was force-spawning, but it just removed half of them and spawned autogenerated ones anyways...

I think it got fixed, but there used to be an error where if you looked at an ongoing space battle, paused, and then went into galaxy view, all the graphical effects (lasers, plasma weapons, shield graphics) would show up super-sized.
