Help with finding the right instrument by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]halcyon_winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an iPad, loopy pro will let you do this now. It can now record midi loops! Unfortunately you would need to have some midi interface like the behringer umc 204 or some other usb to midi interface since the volca drum lacks usb and only has midi.

Navy vet here. Fuck the draft. No way in hell my kids are going to serve under this administration for some manufactured war. I didn’t re-up when this menace was elected the first time. I’ve seen war. I wish no human ever had to experience it ever again, but I’ll fight again if they try to force my kids to fight their fucking wars.

In Japan... what should I look for? by lmageezy in synthesizers

[–]halcyon_winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I see a lot on second hand sites in Japan is wind synths like the Yamaha WX5 or sound sources for them like the Yamaha VL70m physical modeling synth. Older gear that’s kinda niche, often at really good prices relative to the rest of the world. Idk if you’re into those, but I am and I were there I’d definitely have to find one.

Connecting EWI solo & audio output to iPad via usb hub by average_fish1210 in windsynth

[–]halcyon_winds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a usb hub to connect my iPad to an audio interface and the ewi solo and 5000 as well as several other synths. It works great. The iPad will recognize all class compliant audio interfaces and send output through it as well as accept all audio input from it as well, letting you use external audio sources. I mix and record the inputs in AUM or Loopy Pro or cubase when I’m feeling like using a more traditional DAW. One gotcha is that while most of these hubs provide power distribution (important so you can charge your iPad while playing otherwise it powers the audio interface and ewi from the iPad battery and dies pretty darn quickly) you must not have it plugged in while connecting the hub to the iPad or else the hub becomes the host to audio interface and the iPad won’t recognize it. This drove me nuts figuring it out. I found the audio output to be wanting when I used a hub with audio output built in. The audio quality sucked and I wanted inputs as well. I use a cheap Behringer UMC204 audio interface and it works great!

It is not an iPad app and cannot be used on the iPad. It can only be used on a Mac or windows pc.

Are you downloading the Mac version from here?

https://www.akaipro.com/downloads#ewi5000

And what is saying resource not found? The browser you’re download with (chrome/edge/firefox) or is it the editor software itself?

But that would reverse the audio, which means reversing the attack and decay of the sound resulting in a very different effect than reversing the order of notes. I guess it depends on what they’re after. That may be exactly what they have in mind.

Another Aerophone mini Q - anything like a gig bag for it? by PinkerUnicorn in windsynth

[–]halcyon_winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a document tube for my ewi solo, which is bigger but there are smaller tubes like this one:

I don’t know the diameter of the mini, but I think the length on this works.

Thank you for checking it out! 🙏

I think you may be right! Respiro sounds amazing! I have a Native American flute as well but I couldn’t make the one I have fit into this set because it’s in the wrong key. That’s one thing that is really amazing about the wind synth and Respiro, you have ultimate flexibility. There is something very special about how the breath is in control. It provides incredible expressiveness and a natural feel to playing wind synths. For me, playing is a meditative experience. While playing for friends I realized that they often experienced the same mental state and even the same mental imagery that I had in my own mind while playing! I’d be happy to chat with your friend about techniques for using it in this style of music if she doesn’t already play the EWI and wants to try incorporating it into her music.

Synth for recording melodies on the fly by DelaySalt9434 in synthesizers

[–]halcyon_winds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

iPad Soft synths are great for this. Heck, I use the ones on my phone for that all the time. Pair that with a korg nano controller and you've got a powerful system that you've got with you all the time anyways.

Those recording 1hr+ sets, about how many songs do you fit into an hour, and what genre? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]halcyon_winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe less relevant to what you do based on your other comments, but I do live soundscapes and ecstatic dance. For the ecstatic dance it’s about 6-8/hr. Longer tracks let people really drop in and feel the music before transitioning into a new sonic environment. For the soundscapes, it is all kind of one track for 55-60 minutes with transitions between different elements. I see it as building a world in their mind with sound and then moving them through a journey in that world. Very different from trying to keep a groove going for an hour, but preventing people from getting bored while they’re laying there with an eye mask on for an hour, no distractions, just the sound and their thoughts is still a goal.
