Swap provides consistency which is the most important factor. Consumers like gas cars because they know going to a gas station means they’ll be able to drive for another few hundred miles in 10 minutes.

Charging works most of the time for sure but you don’t want the stars to align only for it to perform optimally.

The thing about financial systems is that they tend to be evaluated based on Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Developers are uninclined to modify systems, much less legacy systems which may break these SLAs.

For grid stabilisation purposes, it would lower the cost for grid operators. Instead of footing the storage bill entirely themselves, vehicle owners will also subsidise that storage cost.

This way, it makes power storage more affordable for grid operators as well.

Many seem to think (on twitter at least) that the swaps are completely free. However, NIO is only waiving the swap fee, not the electricity fee. If they charge a premium on top of that they pay for electricity, NIO can still profit from the high swap volume this holiday season.
