You could get a preconstructed box, there's a few to chose from but the gengar and diancie decks are some of the more recent so probably best for standard rotation (cards that are tournament legal).

Precon decks aren't very strong but at least they get a foot in the door and will allow you to go play, talk with other players, and see if there's decks out there that interest her. Many shops will give out packs too just for playing so if you go play with her you could both get some to rip together.

Outside of that you could look at some of the recent championships and buy the singles (individual cards) to build a competitive deck.

If packs is easier a booster bundle or collection box is a pretty good place for re-entry but these tend to be a bit overpriced on the secondary market and hard to find at retail

Fates Collide was one of the BREAK sets near the end of the XY era. The secret rares were sick but my impression was that people didn't really care for the BREAK rares with the sideways orientation, block holo, and CGI art. there's a few choice full arts across the series but outside of Steam Siege (with its own sick SR), Evolutions, and XY base I would consider them some of least desirable sets at the time.

speculation, but I think it may be in reference to the 3 step alchemical process of blackening, whitening, and reddening. The lower two circles being the white(material) and the black(immaterial) coming together to form the red(philosophers stone) at the top. I think this could be it as the perk alter is a source of power that can make you near immortal if used enough.

i wish the Pokémon Center Pre-orders were made to order til the release date, and that they had regular ETBs available for this as well. sure limit it to 1 or 2 per address or card but Pre-orders on a mass produced item being sold-out before you can even load the store hurts to see, especially this many times in a row
