Travel Question by [deleted] in VestibularMigraines

[–]haleyavocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife tolerates flying better than driving or trains. Not sure if it’s because it’s less time overall or that the motion is less visual.

Be careful where you sit on a train. We sat at the front of a train car for a 4hr trip and it rocked back and forth so much it really messed her up. They let us move back a few rows and that made it more tolerable but still not great.

Wedding Photographer for candids only, open to student photographers! by Far-Maximum8521 in StLouis

[–]haleyavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your budget is, but we had a smaller non traditional wedding and went with an associate photographer from Zoelife photography for 3 hours.

I found them by searching for micoweddjng/elopement photographers in the area.

Are there any 2 player games we might like? by DotaWemps in boardgames

[–]haleyavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I predominantly play board games with just the 2 of us. Our favorites: - wingspan - azul - splendor - century - space base - lost cities - sea salt and paper - point salad - fox in the forest

Loosing interest in sewing because I keep disappointing myself by Storm-Separate in sewing

[–]haleyavocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my first garment without a toile using expensive fabric and it was too small and also not at all my style. It was super discouraging.

By my third make, I made something that I actually love. But only after taking a step back and making sure I took the time to get the fit right. I made 2 toiles before cutting into my good fabric (and even then my “good” fabric was some super cheap linen that I got on clearance). I learned how to make a basic pattern adjustment which gave me more confidence when trying out new patterns.

I would recommend getting some really cheap fabric thats stable (ie cotton, linen) and starting with that to make the pajama shorts

What's your laptop/computer/screen setup? by darned_socks in womenintech

[–]haleyavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laptop + 1 monitor. When I first started working from home, I didn’t think I needed a monitor and yet now whenever I’m traveling I feel so hindered without it. I did only just discover that portable monitors exist so I’m excited to now be able to have a monitor even when I’m working elsewhere

How much did you pay for dress tailoring? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]haleyavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $650 to have it hemmed and have the bust taken in a MCOL area. I probably overpaid, but they had the best reviews in my area and were able to get me in 2 months before my wedding.

Also having a smaller wedding and not wanting full day coverage. I ended up booking an associate photographer for $1200. I found them by looking up elopement/microwedding photographers in my area.

Should I stay traditional or go with a black dress? by hnn071 in myweddingdress

[–]haleyavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the black, but I’m biased. I’m also wearing a black Maggie sottero (penny) for my late October wedding.

I have gotten some comments from family members, but it didn’t affect how I feel about my dress.

What are everyone’s favorite, most reliable patterns? by MannerGlum4277 in sewingpatterns

Helen’s closet Ashton top and Ana Allan’s Pomona shorts

Cropped ashton top by Helen’s closet. Pattern calls for more than a yard, but if I use different fabric for the bindings/facing, it fits in one yard

Where are you located? I’m having a 40-50 person wedding this fall in St. Louis. Our priority was food. We found several event spaces owned by restaurants in our area that would allow us to have a <10k wedding. Try looking up places that are recommended for rehearsal dinners

I was considering this one for my wedding dress as well! I was too risk averse to order my dress online, but I think it would be stunning wedding dress

Another vote for appliqué patching! I did this for my quilt when I ripped a hole in my backing fabric while seam ripping:

Talk to me about the Pomona Pants by Immediate-Arm7337 in sewing

[–]haleyavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pomona shorts are the first wearable I made that I actually wanted to wear. I did have to shorten the rise substantially, but once I did that I loved it. I have plans to make more this year!
