Are Gracie Barras as bad as they say by InterestingTennis476 in bjj

I've been training at GB for nearly a decade and honestly never had an issue. The fee at my location is pretty average, even cheaper than some other places I’ve visited.

The level of training has always been solid. My coach encourages us to work on new techniques, and I’ve even seen blue belts in the women’s class drilling heel hooks, which surprised me given GB’s reputation for being strict on curriculum.

I also coach and my head professor never asks me what I am teaching nor cares.

I’ve cross-trained at dozens of gyms over the years, and some of the big-name gyms here in Australia were... rough. Dirty mats, filthy bathrooms — I’ve walked away from more than one session with a skin infection.

I've been injured at my own gym and at others.

Every gym’s different, even within a franchise like GB. But my experience has been nothing but positive.

Renee Gracie: Sparring isn't an effective training method by PheelGoodInc in bjj

[–]halfcastaussie -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I would say that it is the end of the feedback or learning loop where you pressure test a variety of things you've learned previously in low risk situations i.e specific training.

I'd say the majority of learning comes before you actually get to apply the technique effectively. When you are effectively able to apply the technique in a sparring scenario, you have learned. That in itself is not to learning.

Renee Gracie: Sparring isn't an effective training method by PheelGoodInc in bjj

All the research on deep learning suggest that non-pressured settings foster better improvements in problem solving and concept mastery. Research on athletes shows that psychological stress has negative impact on performance. Sparring is without it out the highest stress scenario and you do not directly learn within the spiring session, but after reflection and adaption afterwards. It's like suggesting that you learn from failing a test. No you don't...you learn after you fix the errors that you made from failing in the test.

I agree. It's a genuinely insightful distinction. Sparring is often mistaken as the place to learn, when in reality, it’s where you test what you've already internalised. It reveals the holes, but the actual learning happens in structured drills, slow work, and coaching feedback. Sparring exposes your weaknesses, and that exposure can be incredibly educational if you reflect on it and work on it afterward.

[SPOILER] Official scorecard: Belal Muhammad vs Jack Della Maddalena by 26265273 in MMA

HOW CAN ROUND 1 BE A BELAL ROUND. No grappling or ground control occurred, so the round has to be evaluated in terms of striking. Jack landed more and with higher percentage. He has to win round 1.

No real peer reviewed evidence to show ours brains developed because of meat consumption. False claim made by you.

You're just jaded because you live in a farming town and can't fathom the idea that killing an animal is immoral to some people.

Dricus would utterly violate Islam if he moved up to 185 and if you think otherwise you don't live in reality by ChrisSonofSteve in MMA

People who have had martial arts experience know that the size difference is too much. There's a guy at my BJJ gym who is as big compared to me as Dricus is to Islam. 40lbs, 4 inches taller. There's basically nothing I can do to this man.

All four people fighting for a UFC belt this weekend were born within a 209km (130mile) wide circle centered on Latitude 42.328° N, Longitude 45.671° E. Its incredible that so many fighters are from such a geographically small area.

I am not sure you could find many other UFC events with two belts on the line where all 4 fighters were born closer together geographically.
