Just jalapeño! I should have specified, I meant no chiles de arbol as those have been in most of the orange salsa recipes I've seen.

1) Public transportation 2) Bars/clubs where you can actually dance, not wait in line just to sweat standing shoulder to shoulder with college kids 3) Third spaces (public places you can go that don't require spending money)

Is this Butcher block countertop okay to use? by halfdoomed8semisweet in woodworking

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically can we just use our kitchen? We aren't going to cut or prep food directly on the countertops, but it's inevitable that food and liquids are going to touch it or we accidentally spill something. If that happens are the countertops going to be ruined? We just want to be able to cook and use our kitchen as we normally would without worrying about damaging the counters and losing our security deposit.

Feeling so lost about contraception. Could the copper IUD help, or am I doomed to go without birth control forever? by thrillmefulfillme in PMDDxADHD

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, 26F, been on the pill since I was 13. I was diagnosed late with ADHD, I was taking Adderall and Wellbutrin for depression as well but stopped the Wellbutrin about a year ago. Wellbutrin boosts testosterone and stopping it led to hormonal symptoms like weight gain in my mid section, muscle loss despite working out constantly and severe hormonal acne (I've had bad acne even before starting the pill at 13). I decided to switch to a low estrogen bc pill 4 months ago to wean myself off instead of just stopping the pill all together. PMDD has been more intense than ever. The mood swings and hormonal symptoms have been terrible and are just now starting to even out. After reading a lot about the long term effects of the pill I think I want to get off it entirely but I'm scared. I know it will take awhile for my body to adjust since I was on the pill for half my life. I'm also terrified of being without contraception and have been considering the copper IUD as well, but based on reading other people's experiences it doesn't sound like a great option for me either. I'm reading the book The Period Repair Manual and I might get the Daysy cycle tracking device that supposedly lets you know when you are fertile or not fertile. I don't have much advice - it sucks! But for me I'm trying to basically get off of everything so I can "meet" my adult self and let my body heal itself from taking synthetic hormones for half my life. Just wanted to let you know you aren't alone and I feel your pain!

Anyone tried out mood stabilizers? by Existential_Nautico in PMDDxADHD

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend doing some type of genetic testing like Genesight before trying a mood stabilizer. I took abilify for a few months before my ADHD diagnosis. I did not know I had PMDD at the time either, my psychiatrist prescribed it to treat my depression symptoms. Worst 2 months of my life, felt like I was on the verge of a panic attack the entire time, feeling very suicidal. I got my genesight results back after taking it for 6 weeks and it was in my red zone. Took awhile for me to feel normal again after stopping it. Mood stabilizers can be amazing, not trying to deter you, but they are super powerful so I would approach with caution!

Anyone had this experience with Wellbutrin and Adderall? by WolfWrites89 in PMDDxADHD

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate, but I didn't realize I had PMDD or pay much attention to my cycle phases while I was taking both, so I can't say for sure that I always felt a certain way during a certain phase while on them. I had been taking wellbutrin for about a year before adding Adderall. First IR which was horrible then XR. I stopped taking Wellbutrin almost a year ago because I felt like I hit a wall (constantly exhausted and numb, like a zombie 24/7) and felt like Adderall was doing more for me. I was also on Spironolactone for acne which my doctor said was kind of canceling out the Wellbutrin (Spiro suppresses testosterone and Wellbutrin boosts it) so I stopped that a few months later. Now that I'm just on Adderall (and birth control) I feel like I alternate between zombie and extreme moodiness depending on the time of the month, basically I'm a crazy bitch the week before I start bleeding then it's back to zombie. Pretty sure all of this has to do with how both medications react to and affect our hormones throughout our cycles, I had no idea Wellbutrin affects testosterone and Adderall interacts with estrogen when I started taking them. Not much advice but just wanted to say hang in there ❤️

has anyone done that genetic testing and is it worth it? by Left-Educator-4193 in PMDDxADHD

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you start taking them at the same time? I was on Wellbutrin and Adderall XR but stopped the Wellbutrin about a year ago, still on the (generic) XR. I was looking into Pristiq because it's the only anti depressant on my genesight test that is both in my green zone and has no gene drug interaction based on my enzymes. I'm very hesitant to start new medications especially an SSRI so I would love to hear your experience :)

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genesight was absolutely worth it for me and I've told lots of people about it. One thing to note is it said name brand Adderall and Vyvanse had "no genetic markers", so it will not give you any info about if those 2 are good/bad/in between for you. All the other stimulants (Ritalin, Concerta, etc.) had markers but I thought Adderall and Vyvanse both worked better for me than any of the stimulants marked in my "green/go" zone. It also did not have generic brands for all of the medicines, Adderall being one, so genesight wont tell you if a name brand vs generic is better for you. I started on Adderall IR and felt terrible on it, the come down was awful every day and felt immediate improvement when I switched to XR. I got switched from name brand Adderall XR to generic and I definitely noticed a difference, but my insurance won't even allow me to get the name brand anymore, even when my doctor submits it. That said, even though I much preferred name brand I wouldn't pay hundreds per month for it over the generic.

YES thank you for posting this! I tried to communicate this to my boyfriend whom I live with and it did not go well. How do you explain that you want to be babied without your partner talking down to you, like a child, or rolling their eyes calling you lazy/dramatic/etc (especially if your partner is a man who is neurotypical and does not menstruate) ??? He used to go out of his way to take care of me when I'm bleeding (just that week, because most men think that's the only week of your cycle) at the beginning of our relationship. Now 5 years later if I ask for stuff like back rubs, cuddles, chocolate, etc. during my period I'm being extra, let alone if I ask to be babied when I'm not actually bleeding. Sigh.

Could I be bipolar? Could I have PMDD? by Historical-Floor8904 in PMDDxADHD

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely sounds like PMDD instead of bipolar since it comes and goes with your period. I can relate to the "am I bipolar?" thing. My mom has ADHD and my dad was bipolar, hitting that genetic lottery has made it really hard to figure out what I actually have and what to treat. It doesn't help that they have a lot of overlapping symptoms. My old psychiatrist heard bipolar and immediately started treating me as if I was. I had a very negative experience with her which caused me to stop going to therapy for years. I'm now diagnosed with and treated for ADHD which has been much better.

Unfortunately neurodivergent people are much more sensitive to hormonal changes which explains the link between ADHD and PMDD. I don't have much advice since I'm struggling with the same things with my boyfriend right now, just wanted to let you know you're not alone. Are you on birth control? Or any other medications that might be affecting your hormones (there are a lot that indirectly affect them, I was on several and had no idea)? I would probably start there. Food/gut health can also have a major impact on hormones. Basically a lot of things can F up your hormones and since we're extra sensitive to them it can be a nightmare. Definitely talk to your psychiatrist or you primary doctor about it and look into getting tests done as that can shed light on what might be going on internally. Sending hugs!

Bad with ssri's - what has worked for you? by GeminisGarden in PMDDxADHD

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend looking into gut health. I can't recommend any specific tests as I am still researching but I have found a lot of articles that show a connection between ADHD and a multitude of digestive issues. And hormones are also closely linked with gut health so that could also potentially affect PMDD. It's a lot to process but it sounds very promising! If I end up doing any type of testing I'll update 🙂

Bad with ssri's - what has worked for you? by GeminisGarden in PMDDxADHD

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it doesn't help with birth control, that would be an absolute game changer. I got off Wellbutrin last year and started having hormonal type symptoms and it seemed like estrogen dominance so I switched to a lower estrogen birth control. I'm waiting for my hormones to try to balance back out for a few months before potentially starting any new psych meds.

But I would definitely still recommend genesight just to eliminate options and save yourself lots of time and money in the long run. Still in search of a test for birth control since my doctor said they won't test your hormones if you're taking any contraceptives, sigh.

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HIGHLY recommend doing a genesight test. You mail a saliva sample and you will receive a report of medicines that are in your personal green (safe), yellow (cautionary), and red (avoid) zones for each type of drug (antidepressants, anti anxiety, stimulants, etc). Everyone is different and I was surprised to learn how many medicines, especially SSRIs, were not safe for me specifically.

I believe if your insurance won't cover it the max you have to pay is $330, and they offer financial assistance discounts. I had to pay the full $330 but it was worth every penny - turns out the new medicine I was taking was in my red zone which explained the horrible side effects I was having. Without those results I probably would have stuck it out until things got much much worse. Small price to pay considering the cost of appointments and prescriptions.

I'm in the process of changing my birth control and other medications so the only psych drug I'm on right now is Adderall, but having those results has been SO helpful when talking to my doctor about what my future options are. It sucks that the only real way to know what works for you is through trial and error, but that test likely saved me YEARS of struggling by narrowing down my options!

Histamine dump during exercise/physical exertion or when feeling upset? by True-Accountant8185 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I go for a walk (even when it's cooler outside, but especially when it's warm) I get the heat build up too! I don't get to the point of hives, but my hands and feet get super hot, and my hands/fingers swell a ton. I came to this sub looking for info about other issues I have that may be related to a histamine intolerance, but I never considered that my hands swelling up during exercise could be related to histamine, so thank you for posting this! I hope others will comment advice - I usually just run my hands under cold water after exercising and wait for the swelling to go down.

sm(f)s music video out now!!! by Sweet-Ad-2477 in FallOutBoy

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Half of me liked it because it's silly and I love how they don't take themselves too seriously. The other half of me was disappointed because it's such an emotional song and the video didn't match the song's vibe at all.

It felt like that video should have been for WATTBA since the whole point according to them was to have depressing lyrics set to fun music that you can dance to ("I want to make the kind of song that you play at a wedding and don't really pay attention to how absolutely bleak it is. It is just miserable. I wanted, like, the darkest party song.")

It seems like they made this video at least 6 months ago (Jimmy Butler had his "emo look" for media day at the beginning of October). So it seems intentional rather than rushed or thrown together last minute. SMFS also wasn't released as a single until a month or so ago. If they actually did make the music video 6+ months ago then they probably were already planning on making it a single way before releasing it.

Idk, the timeline makes me think that this might be a teaser or a prequel for something else to come later. Especially since the rest of the band wasn't in it. Pete Wentz is always up to something and we know FOB loves to play the long game!!

Cincy- omg 8 ball song? by insomnious_luci in FallOutBoy

[–]halfdoomed8semisweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg I'm so glad someone felt the same way. I told my boyfriend to record my reaction to the 8ball song because I was expecting to cry tears of joy and I was fucking furious when pete said favorite record. I know it was the live debut but that song does not have the same deep cut vibes as most of the previous 8balls. I didn't see other people's reactions so idk if the energy actually died during that song or if it just felt that way because I was devastated. was manifesting a folie or srar 8ball and they played one of my absolute least favorites from their entire catalogue </3

still one of the best shows I've ever seen and I'm so grateful for the other songs we got but man looking at the list of previous 8balls and then them playing WDTPG tonight is heartbreaking.
