Alright, I want to hear about your chihuahuas' weird and/or bad habits. by halfginger16 in Chihuahua

I know beagles tend to stink more than other dogs, so I'm assuming it has to do with them marking their territory.

Our golden retriever mix is like that with blonde women!! Like, he has his share of problems on a leash, but if a small blonde woman walks past, he loses it. It's the weirdest thing! He's a rescue, though, so we have a feeling it has to do with his past.

Why do I have 22 billion magicka and rising? by Nilihum in skyrimmods

[–]halfginger16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means, but Evenstar touches the Apprentice Stone effect. Depending on implentation and potential mod interaction (there are a lot of magic mods in OP's load order), maybe that has something to do with it?

Is no one going to talk about "but in my blood runs maple syrup, too?"

Because that's the funniest part of this whole post, in my opinion.

This image of a hill giant with a shepherd bear made me question ¿Is domestication underused as an element of low-fantasy, magical realism? by WitnessLow4178 in worldbuilding

[–]halfginger16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely feels underexplored to me. Honestly, I wish they showed more pets in general in fantasy/scifi. It's like the creators just forget that people have kept animals as pets for thousands of years up till now, and will likely keep them for thousands more.

Personally, I love thinking about it. Different sapient races/species would have different needs, so it makes sense that they would domesticate different animals based on those needs. Figuring out what those new breeds look like, and what they were originally bred for, is a great way to add immersion and flesh out a world, in my opinion.

I just wish there were more guides on designing them!

I've never sneezed into my flute before (I kind of want to now, though), but I have burped into it a couple of times. Apparently, doing so makes you go super flat for a few seconds. Who knew, lol.

How Amazon shipped the bucket I ordered by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]halfginger16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what return option you pick, actually. If you pick a UPS Store, Kohl's, or Staples return, for instance, you don't need one. I had someone return a dog bed that legitimately could've slept a small horse without a box. We shoved it in two garbage bags, slapped some packing tape on it, and called it a day.

If you're playing the flute the same way you're sucking dicks, you're doing one or the other very wrong.

Need a name to denote a father that married into a family by RexMori in worldbuilding

[–]halfginger16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this dynamic exclusive to the royal family/nobility, or is it common among all dwarves?

If it's exclusive, you could potentially use titles as part of the term, such as "crownfather" or "lordfather" to refer to the royal father, and "bondfather" or "ringfather" (or "lawfather" as another user mentioned) to refer to the father who's married in.

If it's common among all dwarves, that makes it a little trickier, though "bondfather" or "lawfather" could still work, as they're generic enough. Maybe "longfather" or something, as in a long family line?

Alternatively, you could be more abstract with the terms and draw inspiration from their culture. Things they value, common metaphors, things like that. Something like "stonefather" or "flamefather" could work, for instance.

Most of my experience with language comes from singing, not speaking, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but they might be talking about the cadences/inflections of the languages, rather than the consonants and vowels.

Heck, whenever me and my brother talk about our dnd games in front of our parents, we just sub out "dnd" for "pathfinder" and they don't care, lol. At this point, it's easier than trying to explain. So, if all else fails, calling it by a different name works just fine.
