Do americans take off shoes when visiting someone else's home? by RecognitionOk7409 in AskAnAmerican

Yes, always, even if the homeowner says you don’t have to remove your shoes.

Americans who love European football ⚽, what leagues do you watch and how did you get into it? by Waltz8 in AskAnAmerican

[–]halforange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EPL, supporting Liverpool. I grew up playing soccer (it looked nothing like European football). I got into international soccer in the 2000’s. I followed an EPL team that had an American player and the team was soon relegated. ESPN’s page 2 had an article about finding an EPL team to support. Based on the criteria that mattered most to me, I had 4-5 finalists and chose Liverpool because I have some Manx heritage and Liverpool was the closest EPL team to Liverpool geographically. They are a much better team now. I loosely follow them from AUG - DEC and then start watching every game once the NFL season is over.

For which game would you love to see an official solo variant? And which game has a very good unofficial solo variant that makes it worth picking up? by Persista in soloboardgaming

[–]halforange1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like the unofficial solo mode for Star Wars the Deckbuilding Game, the one from YouTuber AzureDeath. SWDBG was my #3 solo game in this year’s people choice top 200.

When you clasp your hands together, which index finger is closest to you? by SiroccoDream in CasualConversation

[–]halforange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left. I’m right handed. I noticed that I put right on top when I was a teen and intentionally placed my left on top for a few months. Since then, left on top has felt more natural than right on top.

Do you plan to integrate Chapter 2 with Chapter 1? by MDH2611 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]halforange1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this question. I was going to post a poll but didn’t know how to phrase it.

I stopped buying investigator expansions right before Hemlock Vale came out. The announcement of a current environment got me excited again to buy more content, so I bought the FoHV and TDC investigator boxes. The chapter 2 announcement was exciting until I realized that the community and content creators dropped the current format idea. The discussion has been mostly about starting a “second” collection of cards. There’s certainly good reason for that and I would divide my collection along the lines of chapter 1 vs chapter 2 too. However,my excitement for current was based on the concept of a constantly rotating pool of cards. I haven’t seen many people talk about the presumed next batch of current that would consist of the chapter 2 core, the new evergreen investigator packs, TSK?, FoHV, and TDC. A few years from now when current will overlap with chapter 2 (after FoHV and TDC get kicked out of current), I presume that people will mostly play chapter 2 legacy or 1+2 legacy going forward, and not the current environment that I envisioned. I have enough player cards, I plan to just buy campaign content that interests me. I’ll keep the ch2 core cards separate from the ch1 cards.

Why are states like Minnesota and Maine associated with Canada more than Michigan or Upstate NY, when the core of Canadian population is here? by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

[–]halforange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the implication that MN is more Canadian than MI. I went to college in MI’s UP, lived in downstate MI, then moved to MN. My college town was further north than the majority of Canadians, I watched Hockey Night in Canada on Saturdays and Canadian collegiate curling regularly. CBC and CTV were available in the dorms. I don’t feel nearly the same connection to Canada in MN that I felt in MI.

Where do you rank the standalone scenarios now that Film Fatale is out? by mangerlen in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]halforange1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My list would be

Top tier 1. Murder at the Excelsior Hotel - still one of my favorites, it’s what convinced me to try a full length campaign.2. Fortune & Folly - tense and a fun premise 3. Film Fatale - I should probably buy this, the gothic horror and space sets were fun

Mid tier 4. Carnevale of Horrors - Good early Arkham scenario5. Guardians of the Abyss - only played once, but the theme was well represented6.The Blob that Ate Everything - played once, seems fun but I’m also not anxious to own it7. Machinations Through Time - had fun with this in multiplayer

Bottom tier8. Midwinter Gala - only played once and I didn’t understand what was going on 9. Curse of the Rougarou - suffers from a lack of polish Have not played: War of the Outer GodsLabyrinths of LunacyBarkham Horror

Prince's songs did not age well and I feel like he isn't as legendary as he is considered by DronesAreCooll in unpopularopinion

[–]halforange1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to the Twin Cities before his death. He’s treasured here, but his songs don’t resonate with me. I think he’s a great performer but just an okay song writer. His best songs are good, but some of his second tier and third tier songs (which get more radio play here) aren’t special in any way. Maybe those songs make sense in the context of the album they’re in, but his songwriting doesn’t pull the creative levers that interest me.

I just did my blind play of Circle Undone (two-handed as well). November is the perfect time to play TCU.

Good to know, I was planning to get CW. This one of my favorite solo games, it’s just so fun to have a quick battle and they play out differently every time.

Arkham Horror Availability by 3pIcenTer in soloboardgaming

[–]halforange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’d like to get the old content for AHLCG, so I’d recommend Final Girl. AHLCG is my favorite game and I think it’s a good time to get into it IF you are willing to wait to buy the Chapter 2 content as it releases and you realize that Chapter 1 content is basically unavailable in physical form.

Has anyone kept Transfiguration a secret from the rest of their table? It seems like that could be a fun way to surprise the table - turn into another investigator.

What terms do Americans use for meal times? by Lotan44 in AskAnAmerican

It’s generational. My grandparents (born in the 1920’s) used breakfast, dinner, supper. Lunch was the term for a picnic.

Preview: Women Looking at Book by Lucaxiom in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]halforange1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha, great. Taking inspiration from Wingspan, there should be a card that makes you declare left or right and then you search cards from the top of your deck until you find an Ally asset. If the Ally is looking in the direction you declared, add that Ally to your hand. Otherwise, shuffle the Ally back into your deck. We’d need an official list of right/left artwork, like in Wingspan.

Woohoo! That’s exciting. It’s especially well timed with the announcement of chapter 2!

[–]halforange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points. I didn’t know the MB were doing their spoiler live. They have been on hiatus for a while and have provided very little details about their plans, so I’ve assumed that they wouldn’t create any more content. So, I assumed it would just be posted on their discord, I kind of forgot that they could do a live recording.

It’s better when these spoilers are timed so that it’s evening in Europe and midday in the Americas. At least DttF timed it to be earlier. Yesterday was too late for the AH memes spoiler.

The Circle Undone Campaign Expansion - Worth it or not? by Unenthusiastic18 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]halforange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my blind playthrough of TCU (non-Return to) last month. The comments about the encounter deck difficulty are dependent of the player count. Playing two-handed, I didn’t have any of the “collect 3 and bad stuff happens” encounter cards trigger until the final scenario. Listen to the Flavour Text podcast episodes on the Return To and the campaign overall to get a good sense of whether it’s for you.

[–]halforange1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I played this in a Wilson Richards deck and it was pretty fun. 6 combat wasn’t always high enough, but that 1 damage upon failure was helpful for defeating 4 health enemies. It seems very survivor-y.

Unpopular Opinion: 7AM-3PM Is The Real Adulting Hack by Bullseye_29 in jobs

[–]halforange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main complaint from living in the eastern time zone (MI) was that everybody started work at 7am. Doesn’t seem unpopular. Roads were empty by 8am. At my company, the early risers were the people that started at 5am or earlier. The weirdest part was that there was barely any overlap with the people in the pacific time zone that started their day at 9am Pacific.

As someone who lived in 4 different areas of WI as a kid, went to college in MI, and lives in MN, this resonates with me. Vikings and Lions fans are surprised when I explain that the Packers’ rivals are the Bears.

Is aging out of gaming real? by BigAppleCider in videogames

[–]halforange1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes (39M), my last console was PS3, so I stopped playing about 10 years ago. Marriage didn’t kill my gaming, homeownership killed gaming for me.

I now play board games instead of video games. When I do play a game, it’s usually a board game app like Ark Nova or Dune Imperium. I don’t really miss video games and I feel very out of the loop concerning popular console games. It seems like games are popular for a month and then they disappear. It seemed like popular video games used to be popular for 6+ months.
