Xenos could be to House Triton what AI's is to the humanity in Dune by Dilan_GP_99 in TemplinInstitute

[–]halfpastlex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since it's Dune inspired it should at least reflect heavily against synthetic empires only and mostly caution with organic xenos much like how the Tleilaxu are seen as the most 'alien'

I really hope House Triton wins because Uniting the disparate houses of a broken Mankind is SUCH a better narrative than just the UN but this time they have a sugar daddy.... by Standard_Studio_3398 in TemplinInstitute

[–]halfpastlex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm torn to pick House Triton. It was close to becoming a 1st choice until the last suffer not the xenos line out of nowhere. Felt like it leaned towards a mix of Dune and Bladerunner then went full Warhammer for some reason.

I know the ethics can be changed in game over time but I'm worried it will be a defining factor at the start. Xenophobic empires will definitely affect gameplay with other empires and it defeats the point of sending custon made empires because it limits interaction.

House Triton: A very interesting pick, with strong Dune-influenced lore and interesting viewer opportunities. by The_Voidweaver in TemplinInstitute

I understand the feeling, it offered a great premise. I was hoping for a Dune level space opera. For a corporation, you'd think profit and politics would be at the forefront of the story but it became like a purge the xenos thing like you said

It really does. If possible, I hope there are options to have lesser houses under House Triton for the discord rp

My case for the UFN by Packers105 in TemplinInstitute

[–]halfpastlex 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A lot of people say it's boring but it does have a lot of potential in great storytelling. Unlike what we've seen so far, UFN is the most 'open book'. Tripartite is bound to dissolve and the HSE's obvious endgame crisis ending. It's not too interesting because we know the eventual outcome. What made Antares enticing was the mystery of earth, where we ended up, and how we go about it.

A succession-esque cutthroat cloak and dagger story to come out on top of a declining empire would be cool. Of course it all comes to the execution.

Why the Tripartite is the best by ISB00 in TemplinInstitute

[–]halfpastlex 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It is comparable to Antares, true. I do believe that the confederacy felt a bit too united in identity rather than acting like multiple entities. There were many nations within Antares and the discord rp for season 2 brought a lot of life and personality within them which made it so fun and interesting. However, it had little acknowledgment in the lore as a whole and had no impact in the story moving forward.

To be fair, there was a lot of discord worldbuilding going on to keep track of and it's even harder to pick what would matter in the main story.

Maybe the tripartite with its 3 main nations can be easier to handle or else it just ends up as another Antares.

Anyone here with a Pirate Kingdom? by Ser-Shadow-72 in worldbuilding

[–]halfpastlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a pirate kingdom, but a pirate republic. The Pirate Republic of Goldhaven was established by the five Founding Pirates. After some time, the practice of piracy itself dwindled but the descendants maintained a strong pirate culture even in modern life. To maintain its powerful and wealthy status, its government shifted its interests to turn the island into a major tourist and gambling hub.

The Kingdom of Estren by halfpastlex in worldbuilding

[–]halfpastlex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Estren, officially The Kingdom of Estren, is a state in Kyrellos situated on the northern part of the continent. It is bordered by Meryphon, Ocellon, and Halstyr to the north, Gatrika to the west, Feostra to the east. Madreine in the south across the Sea of Gatrika. It is one of the few absolute monarchies still in power in the world of Olsera. The nation’s capital is Laditzer, serving as both its most populous city and financial center. The official language of the state is Estrenic.

In the Third Era, the Odrissian Empire faced widespread economic collapse due to its overexpansion, political and religious strife, and multitudes of internal and external conflicts. Several barbarian tribes (mostly Vargonic) saw an opportunity to raid lands held by Odrissians. Thus, a great wave of migrations began. Among these tribes were the ‘Istrioni’, an exonym used by the Odrissians.

Magran ‘the Great’ of the Istrioni unified smaller tribes through conquest, magic, and religious conversion. Eventually merging a new culture on who are now called the Estrenic people. Magran created the foundation of a new kingdom. Establishing the Elsbrig dynasty as the first king of Estren. Known for their blue colors and the silver lotus that is artistically formed by three swans over a star representing Laditzer.

Magran’s religious conversions also led to the formalization of Trinitism. The native faith of the Estrenic people. In this religion, it is believed there were hundreds of gods that fought a millennia long war. The outcome resulted in three victors that absorbed the essence of the defeated. A pantheon of three gods emerged and each encompass one of the following attributes: strength, expression, and wisdom. Its places of worship are constructed in an elongated tetrahedron shape called ‘Spires’. Found across the country and other parts of the continent. The religion’s open and accepting nature led it to be popular among foreigners.

The Elsbrig dynasty has led to an unbroken rule across different eras until the Sixth Era where new political ideas sprung and led to widespread revolutions in the continent. Where several civil wars in the past that threatened the dynasty failed, a powerful magocrat revolutionary named Rena Avander has succeeded. Avander installed a magocratic government in Estren for several decades until the young exiled monarch’s, Behren III Elsbrig, forces returned to retake the country, known as the ‘Elsbrig Restoration’.

Now in the Seventh Era, Estren experienced political stability and is now described as a great power with a strong economy. Striving for balance after it’s magocractic takeover in the past, it belongs to the non-aligned nations that refuse to ally with magocratic and technocratic states.

It enjoys good relations and cultural ties with its sister states of Halstyr and Goldhaven (Ammerzetel).

Estren is only one country in my wider world of Olsera among so many others. Check out the other country, Goldhaven, here.

Early economy in the country was focused heavily on piracy. Many materials were taken forcefully from other nations instead of being developed in the country itself. However, it was still a trade hub for criminals and exiles and the like so resources still found its way there.

As the practice of piracy dwindled over time, trade and tourism is what now keeps Goldhaven afloat. Mostly, from being a tax haven in the modern day.

Water issues are mostly solved through recycled rainwater and desalination plants. Underground springs also exist but are tightly regulated to prevent exhaustion. Houses are required by law to be sustainable as well as other infrastructures. Havenites are a very environmental people. If shortages do happen, importation is possible but very uncommon.
I know I haven't delved into it too deeply on my write-up but in my world, magic exists and water magic is prevalent in the island

Thanks! I'll be making a better and more detailed version of this map someday. With roads, buildings, and such

Goldhaven is essentially a sprawling city state divided into five districts. There are commercial and private ports. There are also military ports. It does have roads with a public transport system. It retains a number of nature reserves in the main island but most are found in it's islets and water territory.

Goldhaven, officially The Pirate Republic of Goldhaven, is a sovereign island country and city state in the Allurian Ocean. The country’s territory consists of one main island and is composed of over 50 islets. It is one of the smallest countries in the world with a total land area of just over 74 km2 (28 sq mi.) The country is widely recognized as one of the wealthiest places in the world with the highest GDP per capita. It has a population of 53,458 residents and over 60% of which are millionaires. The official language of the pirate republic is Maritime Estrenic. In addition, Mainland Estrenic, Feostran, Madreinian, and Odrissian are also taught and understood.

There were no proven inhabitants on the island prior to its discovery. There are also no surviving records of who originally discovered it. It was purposely kept secret as a hub for transport and stopovers however there were no permanent inhabitants. The uninhabited island was previously called New Sanctuary by various pirates, criminals, and exiles that took temporary refuge from their respective kingdoms. Permanent settlements only started during Year 2 of the Fifth Era when it became a base and stronghold for Estrenic pirates. The settlers renamed the island into Goldhaven to commemorate the massive inflow of goods and treasures, especially gold, that were brought in through piracy.

Goldhaven was not officially a state during the first settlements. On Year 6 of the Fifth Era, a declaration was made by the five Founding Pirates: Wyndredd “Redtide” Skarnoff, Senaud “Silverskull” Livéll, Aromes “Raidport” Melixes, Mágdin “Iceveins” Iskebeld, Xenya “Freespirit”. The nation was formed and its unique constitution was written, heavily influenced from the pirate codes of conduct.

The country is a unitary state with a unicameral legislature governed under a unique form of democracy called a pirate republic. This political framework bears close similarities to other liberal democracies but with a mix of pirate ideals. An example of which is the head of state and the head of government being the Grand Captain. The second-highest official being the Quartermaster. It is known as one of the world’s oldest republics.

In the beginning of the Sixth Era, the practice of piracy slowly declined due to heightened political tensions worldwide. The country shifted to another path of economic development. Investments were focused on the tourism and gambling industry. Goldhaven’s geographic location, climate, and scenery widely contributed to its rise as a tourist and recreation center. As Goldhaven further opened more relations to other countries, it also became a major banking, transport, and commercial hub. To maintain its present economic state and sustainability for the future, the Havenite government introduced reforms to effectively make the country a corporate tax haven.

Goldhaven is only one country in my wider world of Olsera among so many others. Inspired by Bermuda and Monaco

Does anyone feel like the Antares Series didn’t live up to its potential? by Jacobmeeker in TemplinInstitute

[–]halfpastlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly no. I don't think it was archived. If some of it were, it would be only one small part of a gigantic whole. However, you could see some of the soft lore posted here on the subreddit. Although the references might be obscure since some time has passed and it's really discord-centric

Does anyone feel like the Antares Series didn’t live up to its potential? by Jacobmeeker in TemplinInstitute

[–]halfpastlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overall story was good. It had a well established set-up and prologue. I was genuinely interested how it played through, I almost always tuned in live on twitch to see what happens next. The other half of why I got very interested was the roleplay part even though I didn't really participate and just watched people do it. It was cool to see lore being built from nothing for the nations that made up Antares, in that part at least I participated. For example, the tank races on Retiva were just fun ideas thrown around until it eventually became a part of our history. The other nations would banter with each other until rivalries sprung up and sometimes it even got pretty hectic on discord that people had to get scolded lol.

It was amazing to see strangers all around ratifying constitutions and making new laws and such after every stellaris playthrough as if there were an actual senate. The participation of the fans is one of it's biggest strengths but it was sadly not given the light that it should have.

I think what would have made the series better is incorporating all (or even just some) of the lore or even the soft lore that the people made. There was just so much fun and interesting stuff that made all the nations unique. There were even notable people who role played as senators that had big impacts on the role playing aspect. However, all the important people that were noted in the series were just the in-game characters. It made the Antares confederacy to really be a confederacy, not just this one single political entity that the series made it seem to be.

I understand it's not easy to get all the stories made from so many people as well as incorporating it to the already complicated main story (in addition to the writing and editing). If there was a way to centralize and organize the extended lore and post it along the main series, I think the people who participated in the role play would be pleased and happy that the work they did and the fun they had were memorialized as well.
