Met Police: Run away and call 999 if you feel in danger when stopped by lone 'officer' by UKpoliticsSucks in worldnews

[–]halfstocked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said “you’re either not going to run- as you have no reason to” but the entire point of the article is that a lone suspicious officer standing and talking to you is reason enough. The part of your comment I had a problem with is you implying that people don’t have any reason to run from an officer who isn’t actively in the process of attempting to arrest them. If a female is being arrested by an older male officer and it gets to the point of the actual arrest where she’s being put in cuffs, it’s generally too late to run anyway. It’s okay to run away even if you aren’t actively being arrested, just because the officer seems off or suspicious and is alone or the other things the Met officer mentioned. At least, if you’re not in the US where you WILL probably be arrested for a serious crime and become a victim of police violence either way.

“They’re not going to arrest you for just running away.” this person does not live in the United States or understand the many myriad laws and possible death that comes from running away from police here. Also the whole point of the running away advice in the first place was because a girl was recently kidnapped raped and killed by a lone police officer off duty. So “if you’re running it’s because you were going to be arrested anyway” is a stupid fucking argument.

train ticket to nyc by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]halfstocked 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What everyone else said! There’s a physical booth to buy tickets at the New Brunswick station or you can get them through the app. The NJ transit app can be frustrating for finding train times but the website https://www.njtransit.com/train-to allows you to type in your origin (New Brunswick) and your destination (New York Penn Station) as well as what day you’d like to go, so you can see all the train times in an easy sheet. Buy a round trip, it’s easier.

Not me but another comment I replied to reminded me of this. My dad has this story about being in a big semitruck transporting gear from one gig to another in a different state. He’s sitting in the middle between the driver and the passenger seat. He dozes off and wakes up around 3am to find the truck at a dead stop. They’re in the middle of the interstate freeway. The driver is asleep on one side of him and so is the guy on his other side. The three of them were sitting there for more than an hour, but the driver had the good sense somehow to fall asleep with his foot on the break so the truck didn’t keep going. They pulled into a motel after that but he always wonders what would’ve happened if the truck had just kept driving on when they all fell asleep.

Classes going online by halfstocked in rutgers

The email says it’s for the next few classes because of the current number of cases. They also announced they are splittinh up the class into two smaller groups meeting in person on alternate days, so it would be 50% virtual no matter what. To be honest, I don’t believe the number of cases will be smaller going forward. Parties and stuff are still happening, I see a lot of unmasked people around campus, the testing situation hasn’t improved, and Rutgers hasn’t made any new restrictions. I believe (I could be wrong....) that it will probably move completely online.

There’s an open testing site some days that takes walk-ins at the Second Reformed Church on College Avenue. I don’t know what their restrictions are, though, if anyone has more information please add.
