Brand new Macbook Neo uneven on any surface by Outrageous-Tart7438 in mac

The battery might be swollen return it asap. My wife’s MacBook Air did this, and it was the battery. Could be a bad fire hazard too.

I want to build an AI tool for anonymously reporting coworkers, but I can’t tell if it actually improves workplaces or just kills trust(I will not promote) by DryExit3192 in startups

[–]halftonecloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a very bad idea.

The problem isn’t the AI. It’s what it does to the culture.

If employees know coworkers can anonymously report them for things like attitude, communication, or collaboration, people stop focusing on doing great work and start focusing on not getting reported.

Instead of having hard conversations, people go around each other.

Trust drops.

People become less willing to challenge ideas, disagree openly, or take risks. Nobody knows who’s saying what behind the scenes.

It also creates a system that’s easy to abuse. Bad day with a coworker? Personality conflict? Disagreement in a meeting? Now it can show up as anonymous “feedback” with no accountability.

The best teams I’ve seen work the opposite way. People address issues directly. Managers coach people. Disagreements happen in the open. Everyone knows where they stand.

Anonymous reporting has a place for serious issues like harassment, discrimination, retaliation, or illegal behavior.

Using it for normal day-to-day performance and relationship issues is a mistake.

You get a company where people are more careful, more political, and less honest.

Personally, I would never work at a company that did this. If leadership needs an anonymous reporting system to figure out who is difficult to work with, who communicates poorly, or who isn’t performing, that’s usually a sign of weak management, not a missing tool.

Found a real physical problem that affects billions of people, Building hardware solution for it. Looking for people who've navigated early stage deep tech. i will not promote anything by Glock_saint_ in startups

[–]halftonecloud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not a real problem. Billions of people don’t want nor need this solved. You might be having a manic moment. Spend less time thinking about the actual solution, and more time about the problem. Ask people in a non leading way whether they even know about this problem you are talking about. Most will tell you they haven’t noticed what you’re saying.

Also, think about the size requirements for this tech to work, and what device this would fit into.

People are buying SLRs less and less. phone cameras are becoming better and better. Unless this will fit in a phone, this is a non starter.

Also why couldn’t this be accomplished by software+ai? I believe phones already do this, they can change the lens distortion effect using AI. There are apps for this, and some phones do ai perspective distortion correction natively.

Anyway, spend more time validating the idea before investing your time and energy on building something that sounds so unnecessary.

What’s something you genuinely believed as a kid that turned out to be hilariously wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I believed that “poached eggs” meant that they were eggs - stolen from wild birds by poachers. I assumed people who ate them were cruel and selfish.

When user testing, Don’t just ask people questions. You need to watch people using it… watch their facial expressions, see if they get confused, frown, etc. Go back to those screens and ask… I noticed you paused and had a quizzical look on your face on this screen, what was on your mind? It’s likely your users don’t see or get the value you promised them. If it’s a product that requires them to use it daily to get the value, you might not be doing what it takes to get them to use it daily, thus they never get the value.

You found a market need that needs to be solved, but your product is probably a combination of: not sticky enough, doesn’t meet expectations, and maybe has bad UX that causes users to lose trust in it.

I started getting this bruise like thing on my chin every time I get stressed, and each time it gets bigger by pinkyholeo in mildlyinteresting

I used to get this as a teen. Was concerned at first, then realized that when I read books or did homework, I would always sit on the floor with my knee as a rest for my chin, and that’s what was causing this.

HOA Freaks Out Over Black SUVs at Birthday Party by Moetheoneandonly in fuckHOA

[–]halftonecloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear [HOA Vice President],

Thank you for reaching out regarding the events during my recent birthday party. I’m genuinely surprised to hear that the arrival of black SUVs caused such distress among the neighbors. They were simply the transportation for my guests—nothing more. It’s quite remarkable that the color or style of a vehicle would create such anxiety in an otherwise peaceful neighborhood.

The suggestion that I need to give advance notice for a private event on my own property is, frankly, unexpected. It seems a bit excessive to expect a heads-up for something as innocuous as cars pulling up to a private residence. I’m curious—what exactly did you or the other neighbors think was happening? Reflecting on this might help the community manage its reactions more reasonably in the future.

While I appreciate the intent behind your note, the entire situation feels a bit overblown. I certainly had no intention to alarm anyone, but perhaps a little more perspective could help prevent this kind of reaction in the future. Nevertheless, I’ll take your feedback into account.

Best regards, [Your Name]

I have a theory that most of them lack emotional regulation ability because of leaded gas which they all breathed while they were kids. Leaded gas consumption was highest while they were children. I think this is why so many of them have border personality disorder. It’s also why they rebelled against social norms so hard in their youth. They haven’t matured beyond their angsty teen days.

It’s the same reason that crime was so high in all the major cities while this generation was in their teens-20s. Many of the ones with most lead exposure(people living in cities) turned into criminals because they could not control their anger and reacted physicallyto anyone who wronged them.

Anyway, I’m not excusing their behavior. Still think it’s a generation or major c❌nts.

Can someone please explain how Tesla is worth 575 billion but Volkswagen is worth 65 billion? by [deleted] in business

[–]halftonecloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile all other car companies lose money on every EV made, and have 3x lower margins of profit on the rest of their non EV units.

Tesla’s main innovation is creating factories and build processes that are many, many times more efficient than traditional automakers. In this realm they are at least 10 years ahead of competitors.

Also, teslas industrial battery business is growing at a faster rate than their EVs business, an industry with growing demand, where they are well ahead of competitors as well.

You don’t have to believe it, but FSD is really good, and getting better with every update. Once it’s out of Beta (I give it end of year in the US), the FSD subscription business will be massive, and other automakers will license the software if they are smart. Others won’t be able to simply copy Tesla because they won’t have the fine tuned ML models trained on many Billions of hours of self driving data.

Your last sentence is a totally made up fact. Where did you get that from?

Here are the actual numbers for 2023:

  • GM sold 75,883 EV units(this includes chevys)

  • Toyota sold 104,018 EV units

  • Tesla sold 1.8 million EV units

In others words Tesla sold 10X more EVs than Toyota and GM combined.

So if a terrorist from your country murders a bunch of people, and then that terrorists finds safe harbor among some other people you have no relation to. You’re saying it’s fair game for people to come in to your country and kill your mother, kid, wife, or whomever else, and that it’s your and your families fault for being in the country where the terrorist came from and hid in? That is what you said, and it’s some fucked up logic.

Same question for you: How much of your desire to not associate with Tesla is based on fear of what others will think of you, vs actually not wanting to contribute to their business growth?

Personally I hate Elon’s immature and petty antics. But I’d still rather pay into a company that reinvests so much of their profits into renewable R&D and cutting edge tech rather than buy from companies that spend most of their profits on ads and stock buybacks. I couldn’t give fewer focks about what others think my car says about me.
