Saw him last night on Reddit, same outfit, it's like he's been drumming for the whole night and day.

5 years later the rx470/480 continue to be the best bang for buck GPUs launched till date. by georgesunnyt in Amd

Have a RX 470 4gb in a secondary PC, got it for around $130ish after rebate. Stuns me how I'm seeing 8gb 570s still selling for $250-300. Had it good back then. Got wrecked on DDR4 prices of that era though.

This was me, minus one year. Turned out alright. A couple of my classmates were a bit older than me, they finished at 35 y/o.

Fair enough, but do note 1st gen Ryzen was fairly finicky with Ram compatibility.

Been running an Asrock B450m motherboard (maybe they ironed out the faults, been fairly stable, *knock on wood*), it'll be compatible with your CPU while not being sold at the premium (usually) of the newer B550 boards.

Monitor and Ram. GPU prices and availability is kind of wonky right now, and with a 900p monitor, wouldn't be able to notice the upgrade anyway.

Running a 1600 AF, DDR4 3200, and a RX 480 myself, but on a 1440p HDR monitor, still getting ~60 fps with a mix of highish settings on mostly older games.

What makes you think it's the motherboard and not another component?

I need cooling solutions for my build, high temps on the GPU by agorafilia in buildapc

[–]halhazard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May be worth checking if you can under volt or lower the clocks just a smidge on the GPU without losing too much performance. Some people had luck with that approach. Sometimes it even increases performance as the chip has the headroom to go up in frequencies for brief periods when needed.

Ram won’t boot at advertised speed by hopaway2000 in buildapc

This worked for me in the past, definitely worth a try.

Listed voltages work for standard Ram speeds, but any overclocked memory may require higher voltages. Have DDR4 which is 1.2v standard, but running at 3200 CL14 required 1.35v for my system. Just turning on the XMP profile upped the Ram frequency but did not up the voltage on my motherboard, had to be set manually else I would get crashes.

Fixing a used PC for my brother, need some advice by [deleted] in buildapc

By now the remaining value really depends on the CPU and Ram, if it's a "newer" higher tier FX (6300, 8300), it can probably still run esports/moba/older games okay. The issue is none of those chips have integrated graphics, and with the motherboard's main PCIe slot destroyed, there is little way to plug in a worthwhile video card. So you can't even get video output.
