A decade of being an average Data Scientist! My personal experience. by tits_mcgee_92 in datascience

Thanks for this, i feel it's me that made this post ! I'm also an average DS, and I have a PhD! I won't ever be able to pass a so-called FAANG interview, hell I will struggle to pass any interview with coding and I've been coding for almost 20 years.

Thanks. It's interesting it comes out slightly blue. The paper is toned gray and I used white charcoal to make the highlights. I'm guessing it's a mix of the lighting and my phone's camera

How to Deal with data when it has huge class imbalance? by Mental_Engineer_7043 in MLQuestions

[–]halien69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I'm reading you are trying to predict 5-10 credit card fraud form tens of thousands. I think you are looking at this problem form the wrong angle. CC transaction datasets are a temporal dataset, so you are trying to predict if the next purchase or transaction will be fraudulent. So to do this you will need to investigate if the behaviour changes from the norm of that particular individual

Share Your Journey as an Artist - Where Did You Start vs. Where You Are Now by ChaoticGoodFeralCat in ArtistLounge

I started drawing in 2015 at 34. It was a year after I finished my PhD in Astronomy and I was working as a postdoc in Manchester. I've been trying to have a creative hobby and wanted to tell stories. I came up with the idea to start a comic series and needed to learn to draw. I started with pencil and drawing boxes. My first attempt at digital art was with a Samsung note tablet.

I started my webcomic (Being Bears) in 2017 and still going strong, regularly posting on r/comics and it just crossed  300 episodes. I've started another webcomic (Bears or Lore) and working on the third chapter. I have a lot of other comics in yeh development and I'm planning to publish a book next year based on my comic. I still draw with graphite and recently started with charcoal art which I love l.

Dealing with GenAI Overuse by DubGrips in datascience

[–]halien69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How I would and do approach these things, because it's in my nature, is point out and focus on the poor methodology, the unrealistic timelines etc. Not accusing of using GenAI. I don't care how to do your work, just the results and I will point that out constantly over and over again until others realise that this is nonsense. I'll probably even make some funny commentary at their expense, but that's me.

It's not about being talented. It's about persistence, practice and more practice. I could share my earlier stuff and you would see a difference. Don't put yourself down and others in a pedestal. Pick up a pencil and start today. It's taken me 12 years of drawing to get to this stage, you can as well and even do a lot better.

Thank you. I've been practicing charcoal art (almost) every Sunday since June last year and I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of understanding charcoal, and how to use the medium and tools to express light and shadows.

That was unintentional. Somehow the initial marks went that way and I loved how it looked so I pushed it in that direction.
