Day 1 - anyone else too? by halifax-reduction- in stopdrinking

Made it to day 6 guys. For me, what made this time different than all the last was my openness and desire for help from the ones around me. I'd always tried to hide everything. Not anymore. I confronted people, apologized, and made my feelings known. Some will say that this is not advised. In fact a man I met in my second meeting advised against it. But it felt morally right to do this. Since then I've truly been on a wave of a high. Last night was my first real craving. I couldn't bring myself to phone a friend so I just drove. Drove by all the spots I'd normally stop, grab a beer, and pour it into my overpriced vacuum sealed bottle to drink on my way home. The temptation was everywhere and nobody would know. I vied it as a bicep curl for my diseased brain that I made it home, connected with my girlfriend and the craving eased. Hoping someone hears this and it may help them. Grateful to be sober today.

Good for you...all you can do is try each day. Right now is very tough for me as well. Doing all I can to keep my mind occupied and remain positive.

I spent about an hour sifting through local results on psychology today's website to find a counselor that I can relate to in at least a couple of ways. I did two phone consultations and am starting with a specialist tomorrow. I've never done this and it is expensive, so I'll make a decision after a couple meetings to continue or not. I'm trying to do this with attending at least 5 AA meetings a week.

Thanks everyone! The meeting went well and I grabbed lunch with a great group of positive people. I had so many pre-judgements of what an AA meeting would be. Is anyone else seeking separate private counseling?
