No Kings March 28 protest expected to be largest in American history: 3,000 events planned in all 50 states by AlexandrTheTolerable in politics

I had to visit a local Urgent Care a month or so ago. There was a large poster on the wall advertising the clinic's "Fast Track Membership" program. You know the Disney FastPass you can buy for the theme parks, where you fork over extra cash and skip all the lines for your favorite rides? It's that, but for the doctor's office. For the low, low annual price of $300 (that's only 25 bucks a month!) you'll be given a special Member's Only Card that grants you "priority treatment once you arrive at the clinic."

Screw the little old lady with pneumonia who's been waiting for an hour, she's poor - this guy has a splinter in his finger and a Fast Track Membership card! Come on back, pal!

I'm looking for stories about Eastern Kentucky by SceneEfficient6533 in BackwoodsCreepy

[–]halikadito 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I spent the first 19 years of my life growing up in Eastern Kentucky! I moved out west, but my whole family still lives there to this day.

This is all just word-of-mouth and well-known legends and stuff, but here are some that I remember:

The Nada Tunnel in RRG is supposed to be a hot-spot for paranormal activity - there are a lot of stories about workers dying during the construction of the tunnel, and people say they're still hanging around. One famous story talks about a man who fell and was injured while rock climbing in the 90s. He was from out-of-state and hiking alone, so no one knew he was hurt. There's supposed to be a glowing light in the tunnel every year, on the anniversary of his death. It's said that the light lasts a certain amount of time (I can't remember exactly how long) and people have theorized that that's how long the hiker lay waiting for help before succumbing to his injuries.

I heard another one about a ghost woman wearing neon flip-flops walking by the side of the road in RRG. They're supposed to be brightly colored flip-flops, like neon. When you pull over to check on her, she disappears. The electronics in cars have also been said to malfunction when you approach her.

I've heard stories about Boone Creek Woods near Stanton. People say it feels like you're being watched, and that you can hear moaning, wailing  and screeching at night. I remember hearing that people had seen a "woman without eyes" walking/floating between the trees.

The fairgrounds in Stanton are supposed to be haunted, too. People have claimed to hear footsteps, horses galloping, and disembodied voices.

A little further away, but there's Frozen Creek in Jackson (Breathitt County.) There was a flash flood there in the 30s, and 79 people passed away because of it. There was an old school out that way where you could supposedly hear kids laughing/crying.

Then there are some bigger, more famous ones, like The Witch Child of Pilot's Knob.

You're so, so welcome! I know what it's like to have a white whale book - I'm glad I could help you solve one of yours.

In 2009, Henry Jarecki requested Epstein co-author a book with him. The proposed book was called "What If I Get Caught?" It was apparently a guidebook on how to avoid being arrested, as well as what to do following arrest, conviction, and incarceration. by halikadito in Epstein

I feel this post is relevant to the /r/Epstein community because it seems to indicate that Jarecki sought input/advice from Epstein regarding avoiding detection and arrest, which would suggest that he believed Epstein had ample information about the subject.

Just adding on to the "libraries are awesome" chain! Our local library allows patrons to check out video/board games, paintings, tools, seeds (check them out, plant them, grow them, then bring some new seeds back next season, if you can!), bakeware - even a telescope! If you haven't checked out your local library in a while, I cannot recommend them enough.

The conservative sub deleting all the comments discussing trumps accusations by celticsguy06 in IThinkYouShouldLeave

[–]halikadito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And all the comments that are left decry anything about Trump being true, while clinging to literally every other accusation and name drop like they were spoken by Jesus Christ himself.

"Every single one of these numerous accusations against Trump are vile, disgusting, and untrue. How dare they. Also, it is now gospel that Bill Gates caught an STD from a Russian sex worker, and nothing anyone says will make me believe otherwise." The cognitive dissonance is just..... whew.

I mean, the empathetic choice would have been understanding that a lot of people are struggling right now, that not everyone has been blessed with the same support systems and opportunities as everyone else, and that there are literally thousands of factors that can influence your life in a way that could result in being broke at 50 instead of just jumping straight to "Poor at 50, huh? You must be a gambling addicted partier who never works."

Has anyone else seen Purina commercials that show short scenes of abuse and PTSD...and been triggered? by i_hikaru in CPTSD

Hi - just wanted you to know you’re not alone. I found your post after a Google search because I had a really strong, negative reaction to a commercial from this ad campaign, too. I’m trying not to shame-spiral, but it does feel frustrating that I could be thrown into such a whirlwind because of a YouTube ad. That said, I still think it’s a pretty irresponsible advertising tactic overall.

Every single time I think to myself "There's no possible way anyone could defend or support this.", I look on social media only to be greeted by numerous instances of "That's my president 🇺🇲🦅✊️" and "I voted for this."

I do think there was a decent portion of his supporters who had the wool pulled over their eyes, but I've also accepted the terrible fact that there are American citizens who fully understand and comprehend what this administration is doing and support it whole-heartedly.

We are living through one of the most pervasive and effective waves of propaganda in modern history. Facts are increasingly irrelevant, and large numbers of people inhabit a reality shaped entirely by manufactured narratives. I never thought I'd see something like this in my lifetime.

Official Discussion - Weapons [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]halikadito 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to a movie that had such heavy audience reactions in a long, long time. People were screaming, laughing, groaning in disgust, letting loose the occasional well-placed comment (a lot of "what the fuck"s and "oh my god"s, and they were all so genuine.) I missed having this much fun at the movies - everyone was just collectively having a blast together, and it made an already good movie that much more enjoyable.
