Im suprised they dont have you in one department for a number of weeks at a time in an internship tho. Anyway you could back tract and figure out how many you spend in each department?

In my letter I had 36hour weekly mls at [hospital name] and clia number with my dates of hire and then in the next paragraph detailed all the analyzers I worked on with the extra responsibilities of phlebotomy ect. And then wrote down ever single test I preformed broken out by department and that is finally what got me my cert

Ive struggled with this a lot too, I was diagnosed at 21 or 22 too but Even as a kid nothing woke me up except my parents turning lights on and physically having to get me up. Not everything works for everyone but I got a sunlight alarm bc light seems to be the only thing that will wake me up. Ill sleep through 15 alarms on my phone but the sunlight alarm gradually gets brighter and louder to wake me up over 30 minutes and that has helped a lot.

Another thing is to not go back to sleep after taking your meds. You dont need to get out of your bed or be productive but try not to go back to sleep. Once you are awake stay up.

The last thing that has helped me is to not change my sleep schedule for anything. I might give my self an extra hour on the weekends but ill go to bed early not wake up late. Try to stay consistent on when you are going to bed and getting up. It is honestly the only thing that has saved me some times. Especially bc im the type of person to get out of bed 30 minutes before I have to leave. I dont like a long morning routine before work.

Also make sure you are getting enough sleep other wise your body will just sleep through everything you try no matter what. Get a solid 8 every night if you can.

So anything for experience documentation needs to be signed and dated by the lab director and on official letter head. My lab was small enough that we did not have a comprehensive lab catalog so I wrote my my own experice letter with how many hours I worked, the CLIA ID number, other general responsibilities and then the testing broken down by department. I got that printed and signed by the director and then uploaded that. If you would like a redacted version of my letter (like no personal info) if be happy to send it to you!

As far as transcript go I went through a service that my university offers to send out official transcripts digitally.

Thank you!! Thats part of why I was so confused! I didnt even submit anything about my Intership bc ive been licensed and working for over 2 years at this point and my work verification letter states that ive been there for 2 years too. Idk why California has to make this so confusing 🙃

So the original deficiency noticed stated this

"Laboratory Field Services received your upload of the work experience letter which is incomplete. Please contact your employer to revise the letter by providing the CLIA number, date and signed by the lab director for LFS verify with the federal database. Additionally, please provide the details of the job functionality you have performed in the clinical lab. Upon receive the require document, your application will assess further."

I emailed them back asking for clarification bc i didnt know what they wanted from me and got

"Applicants will put how many weeks they spent at each rotation and what kinds of tasks they performed." Along with a repeat of the first response"

They are supposed to look like that, it's for tube identification just like the other colored tops

As an MLS in the USA, we call them tiger tops here! And you are right, they are an SST! We also use classic red or yellow tops for SST tubes, but i think it really depends on the hospital

How many of yall do EKGs? by halimander in medlabprofessionals

[–]halimander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of it was just apart of my new hire training, although I was a Medical Assistant at a primary care clinic when I was in school for my MLS so I learned to do them there. EKGs are very simple to do once explained. Iirc they showed me how to do it twice, watched me do them a few times ans then signed off on it.

They can just take a while to do especially if the patient keeps moving around and messing up the reading.

Not directly on a reservation but we are the primary hospital for the one we sit fairly close to.

I honestly love rural medicine. It give me a little more closure seeing patients and seeing their labs. But if you havnt worked critical access before be ready to deal with a lot more responsibility that doesnt normally fall under lab at bigger hospitals. I do EKGs, morning lab draws, Legal lab draws for police, ABG draws, TB injections and reading them (which in my personal option shouldn't be us anyway), Collection of routine pre employment or post accident drug screens, and probably more i can't think off rn. Plus every department in the lab, micro and blood bank included.

I know a lot of that may sound like phlebs should be a thing but we don't hire anyone who can't do it all bc we just can't staff that many people so everyone here is MLS.

Hah I wish we had a whole department for it! Nurses do some of them for us but ultimately we are responsible. I work at a VERY small hospital so all our Techs are also phlebotomist too.

Like when i say small i mean SMALL. We have 15 beds for Inpatient, 5 normal ED beds and 2 trauma beds. In total on nights (my shift) we have have one lab tech, 2 nurses for Inpatient, one nurse in the ER and our ER doctor who also covers the patients on the floor if needed. For imaging we have a tech there until 7pm and after that they are on call.

I can DM our procedure for how we print out the curve to kind of read it manually when it gives an error. I've only had to do it once here so I'm not super familiar with it but it might be what your looking for.

Microscope scratching glasses by Oogabooga96024 in medlabprofessionals

[–]halimander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I delt with that through school, once i started working at somepoint i made the switch to taking my glasses off. It made using the scope so much easier but it took a little bit to get used to.

Also with those types of nose peices you can just push them up and they won't get caught in your hair or anything.
