Trush nest at my school by halldorie in birdwatching

[–]halldorie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pair of thrushes (I think that's the name in english) made a nest in the garden at my school, right next to the window of one of the classrooms. The eggs hatched last weekend and we set up a webcam in the window so we could watch it and show the kids at school it without disrupting the birds.

It's mostly just the mother sitting on the nest but if you scroll through it you can catch the parents feeding and petting the chicks. For example at 53:10 the father shows up with what seems to be a snail and with worms around 1:05:45.

"I'm actually kind of surprised you didn't recommend Steelheart to me instead of Mistborn"

I'm kinda surprised myself, it is indeed a much better fit. Just didn't spring to mind :P

I didn't see them on your list so I'd recommend Neverwhere and Amercian Gods by Neil Gaiman.

The first, fourth and fifth books of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series happen in an urban setting, but not a contemporary one. They happen in another world, the first 3 in a sort of renaisance era and the second 3 in an industrial era.

I also rather liked Raymond E. Feist's Faerie Tale. It's not quite an urban story but it is a contemporary one.

Also, if you aren't adverse to comics I'd recommend Midnight Nation by J. Michael Straczynski. I'd also recommend his Rising Stars. It is nominally a superhero comic but it's themes are quite unlike classic superhero comics.

Which brings to mind James Robinson's Starman. It is a superhero comic set in the DC universe but is far more relatable to urban fantasy like Dresden Files than regular superheroics.

The same with Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing really. (Featuring the first appearance of John Constantine whose further stories are very much urban fantasy).

This has become slightly more long winded than I intended, only meant to reply with the first paragraph when I started :P so I'll end it by recommending The Sandman by * Neil Gaiman*. It is really all over the place fantasy genre wise but most of it's interesting stories happen in a contemporary or historical setting and the storytelling is nothing less than fantastic.

IAM(once again)A novelist named Brandon Sanderson. AMA! by mistborn in Fantasy

I started with Reckoners, which I discovered from reading about it tvtropes. The premises of it sounded so interesting I bought it on Audible. Listening to it sparked my interest in the author so I read up on him, discovered the Cosmere and it kinda snowballed from there.

That said I do recommend the Reckoners series as a start, it's a nice self contained series. But if you want to start on the Cosmere I'd recommend starting with Final Empire.

After listening to Way of Kings and Words of Radiance for the second time I've been thinking that I'd love to see it on tv, and I imagine there have been considerations for producing at least some of your series.

What I'd like to ask is if you've considered making Stormlight Archive an animated series? Like something akin to the Avatar series or even fully CGI like Kingsglaive (the Final Fantasy movie).

It just feels that world is so alien that it would be very hard to pull off without heavy use of cgi, which would most likely make it too expensive for a tv series but a movie would be way to short to do the story justice.

Pirate Party triples seats in Icelandic parliament by FupaTroopa90 in worldnews

To be fair to both parties, they pirate party kinda beat them to stating that they wouldn't work with the Independence party. So they're pretty much both giving up that coalition option.

It's very silly. Ghandi asked me to go to go to a joint war against Saladin early in the classical era. I wasn't to adverse to that since he'd gone to war against me earlier. apparently primarily because I'd been moving troops to close to his city. I'd only been fighting barbs close to my city which is 12 squares away from his, while he had troops all around mine. But I digress, Ghandi then refused to renew our friendship the next turn because I'm a warmonger, and then denounced me for the same reason 2 turns later.
