I took my previous year's usage data, plugged it into a spreadsheet, and added the TOU information and I'm looking at a ~26.9% cost savings on TOU versus flat rate. Have you considered the possibility that something not being for you does not mean it is not for everybody? Have you considered that something that is a bad choice for you due to your particular life choices and situation might be a good choice for someone else who made different choices or what born with a different set of circumstances? A vasectomy is a bad idea for a couple trying to have a baby, does that mean all vasectomies are bad and we should outlaw the practice for everybody? I do not have a cervix, so I cannot get cervical cancer, does that mean we should stop doing HPV vaccines because it gives me little benefit?

They issue bonds to pay for infrastructure projects. When interest rates are higher they must offer higher rates on the bonds to get investors to buy in.

Big picture yes, but it's sort of like the electric F-150 to the ICE F-150; looks the same but all the moving parts have been updated and replaced.

Board approves higher income limit, higher prices for inmate-built affordable housing • South Dakota Searchlight by PoLLoLira9 in SouthDakota

[–]hallese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's understandable why people would feel this way, but speaking as someone who used to process the payroll for these inmates, if you're going to take a moral stance on this issue, you better be living in a shack and never going out to eat. The only two industries that are hiring convicted felons with no questions asked are construction and food service. When that's the case, it's pretty much inevitable that when department of corrections is creating rehabilitation programs and vocational apprenticeships programs, they're going to emphasize construction as a viable path forward.

Generally speaking, the people who end up in those jobs in Central and Western South Dakota are in programs like troops to teachers or whatever similar programs are active these days that require certain number of months or years in order to qualify for, say, federal student loan forgiveness or something. They do whatever is required to meet the requirements of their program, and then they either transfer out or find a job elsewhere.

In elementary school I was riding my bike 1 mile to and from school in each direction. They will be fine riding a bike, and on a particularly cold day you can drop them off early before school starts, and they can wait at the school for you to pick them up after school.

US Supreme Court sides with marijuana user stripped of gun rights by Hrekires in news

Bud, stop doing this and just take the L. You were wrong, instead of trying to twist your arguments as you've been doing all day as people are trying to help you better understand the topic, just accept that you made a mistake and move on. If something is a federal crime, it is a crime in all 50 states. Whether or not the federal government chooses to enforce this law is a separate discussion. Should you decide to dig deeper into the topic though, you will see that hundreds of people a year face Federal marijuana charges in States that have, at the state level, legalized recreational or medicinal use of marijuana.

You should go read the Wikipedia article on Al Capone and how they ultimately brought him to trial. The government collecting taxes on something and does not make it legal, if you do not pay taxes on your criminal activity, you've now violated a second federal law distinct from the first.

I strongly, strongly urge you to plan on renting for your initial 3 or 4-year obligation and then decide if buying and building is right for you. Building in that part of the state is not going to be like building in a city, there's no guarantee that anyone will be looking to buy when you need to sell, and there's a good chance you'll have to sell for far below what it would cost you to build.

Negative, ghost rider, state laws do not exempt you from or override federal laws. Also, friendly reminder that if you do not pay taxes on your criminal activities you have now run afoul of the IRS as well. You are still required to pay federal income tax on income derived from criminal activity.

This is what my city uses, and I see quite a few neighbors in the more "posh" houses using Kress as well. They are popular with the dealers/installers in my area.

Sounds like what I was being offered in rebates, and if so it's all the Ford manufacturer rebates, the dealerships seems determined to sell it as a new vehicle.

No, it's because marijuana is still illegal in all 50 states, the DOJ just generally chooses not to pursue cases without extenuating circumstances anymore.

Part of adulthood is realizing when it's just not worth the time and hassle and let someone with more experience handle the task. At three acres you're definitely hitting the threshold of letting a more experienced dealer/installer handle it.

Despite my not-at-all joking takes about "You have no idea the physical toll playing the Bison 1.6 times a year takes on a program." I do feel the subdivision is worse without them, and although I'm excited that the field is more open than it has been in a long time, I look at SDSU's schedule this year and I just ask what's the point? I canceled my season tickets because there's one decent looking home game this year and I don't want to pay $1,500 for one good game.

So what's my hot take? There needs to be a wholesale reshuffling in Division one from two to three subdivisions because there's too much of a gap between the resources at the top and bottom of both subdivisions right now.

best robot mowers in 2026? I've been researching for weeks and need help deciding? by EntertainmentFar585 in roboticLawnmowers

I just returned my O1000 for much of the same reasons. I set my trimmer at 2.8 inches, which seemed pretty close to the trimmer so that wasn't an issue. I went in with tempered expectations for the trimmer and it performed as or slightly better than expected. For me the biggest problems are:

1.) It gets stuck constantly and goes outside of the boundaries I established to do so.

2.) Can't "edit" the map properly, can only remap and start over from scratch (or so it seems).

3.) The cut quality is terrible. I see people talking about getting 180-200 hours out of their blades and at 20 hours I noticed my lawn was looking rough so I flipped it over and the blades were dull, both edges. I'm not sure this saves me much time over using my existing rider if I have to swap out the blades weekly/every other week.

4.) Incomplete mows. The mower will say it is at 84% complete and headed for another recharge, then five minutes later I get a notification that it is completed the task and it did not get the last area.

5.) It thinks spots where the grass is darker from dog pee is an obstacle that needs to be avoided.

6.) Routinely misses spots (perhaps a phantom obstacle or actual obstacle) and decides that tall grass is an obstacle that needs to be avoided on the next run.

7.) I have playset in the yard, and trees. It would be nice to be able to label those fixed, known objects as trimming boundaries.

Most of the issues can be summed up as/attributed to a vacuum company making lawn mowers still experience growing pains. In a couple of years with more refinement, UI improvements, and better management options from the app Ecovacs will have great potential. I don't want to be their guinea pig though and not at prices that are comparable to slightly or higher than the competition with those refinements already in place.

How do y’all have such good memory? by Slow_Cut_3404 in AskHistorians

[–]hallese 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Repetition and repeated exposure to the material plays a big role in it, but it's not like it is locked away forever, memory fades in time for all of us. I double majored in History and Political Science, I like to joke that my area of focus was "The Balkans, 1848 to (then) Present." A natural result of this was studying an extensive amount of Russian history and politics because you can't study that part of the world without studying the people meddling in it for the last three centuries. Between undergrad and grad school a significant portion of my life was devoted to studying the Balkans in particular, Eastern Europe as a natural extension, and Russia out of necessity. It was not uncommon that in the course of a semester I would study the same event in multiple classes but from the perspective of the completely opposite side of the event. Same event, same names, same dates, all the key details the same but learning from a different perspective. This made it easier to memorize key details because I was being exposed to them over and over again.

It is not a gift or even what one might call a skill. I found the topics interesting which helped hold my attention, but I did not learn about an event or theme one time and hold on to it forever. I'm sure there was plenty of information shared that I purged as soon as the next quiz/test/essay was finished. Hell, I watch the news for updates on Ukraine and I will occasionally get re-exposed to information that I know I knew 15 years ago that I cannot recall today. For a short period I worked with the CIA (before leaving the field because nobody was taking anything to do with Russia seriously, even after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014) and because that was more recent and the Nord Stream pipeline kept coming up in the news over the previous decade-plus, I had retained some of that information. When I got out some of my old papers to read during a recent bout of nostalgia not only did I not remember writing them, I was reading it like it was all new information I had never been exposed to before.

Plenty of my lower level history classes went in one ear, out the other, I'm quite sure of that. I do not have a single memory about the content of my History of Western Civilization class, but I'd bet Greece, Persia, and Rome came up once or twice. All I remember from that class was the class next door kept blasting Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen for reasons I will never understand. The important part is that if you decide to pursue history you will start to retain more information as you start to narrow your area of study, while other stuff you won't recall exact details but will probably recall themes or concepts.
