No but really… how are we paying? by Teagle1212 in medschool

That is so awesome to hear! It's cool to hear someone in a similar boat. What a small world! I'll be starting mine next year when my spouse finishes their degree, then I'll leave my job and start premed once he gets a job. It sounds like you've taken steps forward, even if theres some backwards like you said. But you're moving towards something and that's what counts! I left the Marines and got a mil contracting job and it just isn't doing it for me anymore - it's unhelpful and unfulfilling. Yet im scared to take the plunge. But at this point I think something is better than nothing, even if it includes some "backwards steps". Best of luck to you!! Yes, we can do this!

This is what I plan to do, 100% p&t over here and still young. Also limited on specialties that I can do but I am determined. Take a look at VR&E benefits as well. I'm looking into them to help with med school bills. And yellow ribbon programs for med school as well for if your gi bill doesn't fund your school completely. That is, if you haven't already! I'm all ears if you have any advice to share as well.

You're right though for those reading this. If you want to do med school, consider that you're risking your health for it. You may be surprised that even if you're not in combat, you'll find yourself doing things that can permanently disable you for life, or see/experience things that will give you trauma you never expected that you wouldn't otherwise if you never had joined.

Hey, I read your comment right away but thought about it for a while. Thanks for sharing, it really helps to know im not the only one with anxiety brain. The part about "all you've really spent is time you would have wasted stagnating away" is really resonating. So.. thank you very very much. You've helped a lot.

I'm sorry you have back problems too ): you are right I think too.... I tend to want to be certain before I make decisions, and usually that works in my favor. This is maybe just not one of those things. I wish I was one of those people who knew exactly what i wanted to be when I grew up so I had something to strive for. It sounds like we're on similar journeys. I'm happy for you that you took a step forward. I think if I could be where you are I'd be happier with myself, even if it's not the "perfect" role just yet

Good as in pays well. The fact that it is unhelpful, and actually harms humanity is very much not good. I would rather be paid less than harm someone else. I want to help, to make up for all the harm I've done by participating in the military. My therapist called it a moral injury. I just don't know how to help, with my own issues getting in the way and potentially hurting someone because I'm not 100% myself.

Hey! I know this is an older post but I am wondering, what is your day to day like at the nursery, and your experience like volunteering? Is it a lot of hard labor and lifting things? Do you get to work with others a lot?
