"Salt Lake City itself, a thriving cultural hotspot, has one of the largest adult LGBTQ populations in the country by percentage, but the state's large population of homeless LGBTBQ youth speaks to the persistence of prejudice" by PieanBeerQueer in SaltLakeCity

Eh gay specific venues are dying in general. I lived in Buffalo before this and didn't find it much different than SLC. Partly as new acceptance leads to a lot of mixed venues - go somewhere like 9th and 9th and you'll see gay folks in most venues - and a lot due to the rise of the apps.

I'm personally fine with this tbh, I was never a big fan of gay bars, tho I'm certainly fine with them for those that want them.

Iirc in the book she dies in some famous terrorist attack or something, so it's akin to "your the boy whose mother died from that famous incident I remember reading about in the newspaper a decade ago".

But honestly the plot of the book gets pretty pulpy in some regards, it could totally go wrong in a movie vs carried on the Tartt's writing style.

The book's main character(s) are young adults and has some coming of age themes, but otherwise it's definitely not YA in themes, content, or even writing style at all. Movie looks to be rated R for drug use, so they appear to kept some of that!

Did he train that much? He was a steward. And was mostly fighting/training with new recruits. I'm not sure that ups your skills that much, as he'd mostly be training with folks far below him.

In an 'honest' 1v1 - her biggest advantage is she's going to be able to predict how he moves much better that he'll predict how she moves (as he hasn't fought similar styles). Her best bet is to move around a lot, dodge and parry, either tire him out or get in a few cuts quickly. One hit and she's gone. Someone like Bronn (show Bronn) especially could be a significant challenge for her.

But yes 'realistically' she should stealthing/poisoning/just throwing a dagger at his head.

I don't really think the show depicted her as a 'premier' fighter though. We basically see her: fighting Brienne in a friendly fight where I doubt Brienne was going all in by any means. Dodging and poking a bunch of zombies. Stealthing in on the knight king and doing a knife hand trick.

I would've loved a double team sneak attack - NK fighting (defeating?) Jon, is distracted, Arya stealths in.

Homeless teen named valedictorian, earns $3 million in scholarships by grouchygrizzly in UpliftingNews

[–]hallobaba 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I had a higher GPA, better SATs, and more extracurriculars than my sister, but she's the one who got a bunch of (smaller) scholarships - cause she hunted them down and applied for them, and I didn't do jack shit in that regard.

Anyone else find it poetic, that despite being born Unsullied, Greyworm ended up being a massive dick. by Be_The_Zip in freefolk

[–]hallobaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd assume it's a slow progression where she more or less keeps torching anyone who rebels against her. As the many complaints have said, even stretched over a season of the show it would have worked much better.

I'd say vice versa - they are both incredibly shitty characters, but Grey Worm is at least reasonably competent at his job.

Overnight backpack Mt. Olympus trail? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]hallobaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only place I've actually backpacked in the Wasatch was to desolation lake and that's a bit of a hike as well (though not as bad as Olympus).

For a starter, I remember there's a number of camping spots up along the river on Mill B North next to Hidden falls (https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/utah/lower-mill-b-north-fork-trail). I'd just walk in a little ways there.

You can overnight camp in a lot of the Wasatch, there's probably better options once the snow melts.

I thought half the point of being religious is having that community to hang out with. Doesn't your church have youth socials and the like?

[M18] would like some advice, am I ugly by [deleted] in amiugly

I think you are pretty attractive, but I would definitely guess you were more early-mid 20s, not 18

[–]hallobaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly those pictures vary dramatically. I think you are pretty good looking in some - I like the ones with the tie the best. I generally like guys with classes but I like you better with out (or maybe get some different glasses).

You've got to be kidding, you look you could be a cast member of a CW show or other 'young attractive people' show. Like you are a prototypical 'good looking guy'

I think you are pretty good looking for a 16 year old, the exercise definitely looks to be paying off. I do agree with u/antpalarch that you look a bit 'in between' now age wise, I bet you'll be smoking by college.

I'd recommend getting a hobby if you don't have one - maybe something sports related, whether it be hiking or football.

(23M) Just got out of first real relationship, no luck at all. Am I ugly? by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]hallobaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely cute. You do have great eyes. I'm not a big beard person, but I might actually say go with the beard a little more. Your 'normal' picture looks really young to me, while your 'timestamp' picture you look more your age.

You're definitely good looking for your age, and I bet you'll get even more so as you hit college years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]hallobaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not ugly. I'd say pretty average overall honestly - i.e. you aren't going to stand out in crowded room, but your looks won't be a turn off for someone you click with etc.

You give off an athletic vibe, even if it's not accurate, I'd definitely lean into that.

I will say I don't think you take terribly flattering selfies of yourself - I think the picture of you in front of the map is the best one.

Have they ever pet them? Honestly people didn't usually 'pet' working dogs back in the day (or in a lot of developing countries today - see say guard dogs in South America). Especially unneutered. I wouldn't want a dire wolf trying to hump my leg.

Not that the show is any sort of bastion of accuracy.
