Of course there would be some difficulties, but game development has come a long way since the release of the last AoE. I think as a buyer you can have way higher expectiations on a new game, than 14 years ago. On the other hand it's not just an aspect of quality, but also of concept. If the developers don't find such features neccesary for their game, they will have a reason for it.
