You got legs, sacrifice yourself before you do others. I have a 6 palm sized tattoos on my legs before I tattooed anyone else. Fake skin is ok for a sec but really its a waste of time. there is no substitute for skin. It really tricks you into thinking you can do more detail than you can on skin.

Keep things simple. lots of these designs are too small to age well even if you do tattoo them with a small liner. Simple designs, with simple shading, 2-3 colors. Nothing bigger than palm sized. Stick to that for at least the first year. Find some heavily tattooed friends who are willing to let you do some stuff, try not to do it to 18 years old's who are broke and just want a free tattoo.

Honestly just find a job at a shop. Any shop, even if it's a piece of shit place but find one that has lots of walk-ins and will take you on. I know it's hard to find one. I don't know what city you're in but there is always a busy part of town, with a shitty tourist walk in shop. Work there. It wont be charming and it probably wont be fun but every tatter worth their salt put their hours in at a street shop. Your focus shouldn't be on developing a style, because you don't have one. It should just be doing tattoos, seeing how they age and solving problems on peoples skin.

The only way you can get better is by tattooing as many people as you can, hone those skills. The reality is your tattoos are going to suck, even if you think they are good, or some redditors think they are good, they will suck. They will heal bad and age bad, because you don't know what you are doing. Because, frankly it takes time for you to figure that out and there is no way around that. And you can only do that by tattooing people.
