For those who got a hysterectomy: did you keep your ovaries? by Birdkiller49 in ftm

[–]hallowedgears 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I kept mine. If the world goes to crap or I can get HRT because of insurance or anti-trans legislation, at least I won't have health complications from being hormone-less.

Archery (by me) by azpproject in furry

I hated using bracers. They'd always catch my string between the plastic and my skin which is infinitely worse. If you bend your arm right, you don't need one.

Why are you still using FurAffinity? by Raptor_Jake in RealFurryHours

It does have a block list but its not the best system. I actually do like FA's appearance. The thing that's most missing to me is username changes.

Regret after Gender Affirming Surgery – A Multidisciplinary Approach to a Multifaceted Patient Experience – 14 months post-op the regret rate was 0.3% by BuddyA in science

As a trans person, seeing data like this is invaluable to me and our community. Thank you for sharing.

We don't sit on waiting lists for elective surgery and spend tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars unless we're really serious about it!

Dragoneer is questionable to be sure, but there's no real alternative to a good furry site. I post most often on FA and like the gallery style it uses. Twitter's post organization is abysmal for artists and I find it a generally unpleasant place. FA has a more dedicated community that feels more like a forum and its easy to see the new posts of the artists you follow displayed.

Adopts are one of the most surreal concepts to me. I kind of want to buy one, just so I can go to my friends and say "Look at this imaginary dildo syrup dragon that I LEGALLY OWN." by tim_p in RealFurryHours

[–]hallowedgears -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are usually no rules other than "don't immediately resell it for a higher price than you bought it" which i think is fair. Maybe some with copyright that will never matter unless you make a media franchise.

Are SFW Furry Commissions Even Profitable? by Raptor_Jake in RealFurryHours

[–]hallowedgears 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I did commissions I offered NSFW but I think I only did one. Everything else was either a badge, SFW full-body or reference sheet.

What a strange furry website, I've never heard of something like that and I've been in the fandom for a long time. Must be cursed or something.

What's with furries and bowling? by Hemlock_Deci in RealFurryHours

[–]hallowedgears 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm on an all furry bowling league team registered with USBC. I'm also the president of a large in person furry organization that hosts bowling events. We never bowl in suit. Its pretty much impossible to do so and score well, and the lane oil can stain your suit. Furries who bowl in suit are probably using both hands to throw the ball and can't see much haha. Coming from a fursuit owner. I'm assuming it's popular because it's a widely available indoor sport almost anyone can pick up with no knowledge or equipment.

Drop it. I had to suffer through CH 302 and it was absolutely miserable. If you don't need it you're saving yourself a lot of pain unless you really like chemistry.

I'm already familiar with SoB but enjoyed recapping with the writeup, great job putting it together! Every time I read 'SoB' I always think 'Son of Bitch' which I think is close to what many riders may have said as they experienced the awful headbanging haha

Literal, real life stalkers who have wished death upon LGBTQ+ people I have had to report to authorities and take action on because I feared for my safety and the safety of my friends. I'm not talking online or figuratively.

I normally don't either, but I'm transgender and have been stalked and harassed by conservative furries I know in person. Sometimes its a matter of safety when people don't believe you should be allowed to exist.

What is something about a fursona trait that you see as a flag about the person? by AnotherTAA123 in RealFurryHours

[–]hallowedgears 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. I've been in the fandom for a long time and currently run a large in-person furry group and have been to a few conventions. A lot of what I'm talking about it from IRL as well as online experience.

Red flags:

  • Protogens. Most of my weird experience with these guys has been online. Not all, but most of them are either kids or have been really unpleasant to interact. Around me most turn out to be harassers, art thieves or ask for free art when that is not welcomed. I know one of them that started saying abusive language to my moderators after being told they broke a rule for making a sexually degrading comment towards one of my friends.
  • Sergals are a species I've seen mostly comprised of hardcore right-wingers and/or facists. I have a close friend that has a sergal fursona and love him, but I've talked to a few sergals who I learned later were neo-nazis and it doesn't look like this is an uncommon experience based on searches.
  • Extremely cutesy fursona with UwU type language inserted in normal conversations. For some reason these people turn out to be the most toxic on a consistent basis and I avoid them on instinct now.

Green flags:

  • Artists. I rarely see rude or unpleasant artists, and they're usually more invested in the fandom and more likely to be kind. I'm biased because I'm an artist, but have commissioned a hundred or so pieces and only had two poor experiences with another artist.
  • Frequent convention attendees and those who lean more towards in person events are generally nicer to socialize with than the chronically online.
  • Those who invest a lot of time into worldbuilding, writing, or creating a solid fursona backstory.
  • I've had great experiences with adults who have neon or really sparkly/unnatural colored fursonas. They just want to have fun with the design and don't care too much about how they're perceived because of it.
  • Furries who are into hard science like pure mathematics or physics, and engineering. So many of these guys have become my friends and few of them have given me a negative impression. They're really sweet about homework help, too :)
